Custom over the bed cubbies

We don't sit up in bed and we found that once in bed it was a bit of reach up to turn the lights off. Also there's the usual small stuff that needed a home.

So a couple of cubbies that give us some bed related storage space and make turning the lights on and off much more within reach.

So Ron, I guess you miss that shelf which is standard in the E21. Was the window worth it? We never missed the front window in either of our E21, even after having the E19 before each one.

Can't miss what you've never had.

I wouldn't own an RV that didn't have a view out in all 4 directions. I consider it a security issue. Maybe it's because we boondock and park overnight in places that a lot of folks wouldn't.

I like being able to peek outside if I hear noises near me or my truck without having to go outside.

Also, from time to time, there's a view forward and it can be seen even lounging in the rear dinette. Front window; don't have a trailer without it.

We didn't get the under cabinet shelf as I like to sit up in bed and read before going to sleep. If I can't read, I toss and turn for hours. But that shelf was in the way.

I'm tall, but there are times I've thought it would be handy to have a stick to turn those stinking lights off. A cubby in each corner is a great idea!

Looks great, Ron.

I have plans ready for rebuilding the corner build outs in our loft to make them more easy to use. Those cubbyholes are really awkward to use where they are and are mostly empty. Plus, they are noisy when dropping things in due to being plastic. Now, to find the time to do it. Maybe next year.

My comment about that is always the same. You never know unless you try. A little success breeds a more positive attitude and eventually a "can do" attitude.

The favorite reason that I hear from folks as a reason why they don't try a mod or building something is: "I didn't take shop in school". I guess the second one is "I'm not good with my hands."

and then there is "I have done this 3 times before and I'm getting tired of doing it again" excuse.

Great thought, Ron, and I come from a LONG line of "CAN DO" folks. Our family motto was, "Where there's a will, there's a way." My father kept and used a entire basement full of machines and tools, and when he didn't have the exact tool needed, he welded one together to suit his purpose. My brother once observed that, if he'd only cared about money, our father could have made a fortune selling his ideas/tools. Suffice it to say that I did not inherit my father's abilities. Despite correct tools and YouTube videos, I finally had to accept the fact that, though I may be gifted in one or two other areas, I'm simply not gifted at household repair.

I know this for a fact, for until last October, I owned a small house, a true fixer-upper, and I gradually accumulated all of the tools needed to accomplish both indoor and outdoor repairs - even purchased a small bandsaw which I used to remodel the deck. My skills at all of these tasks were rudimentary at best, and the many little successes I experienced along the way in no way made up for the botch-ups and ultimate costs required when I finally faced facts and called in the local handyman.

I gave away the more sophisticated tools when I sold my house, keeping only the basic toolbox full of those needed for the simplest of trailer repairs, but I can assure you that, even if I still had the tools given away, I wouldn't rely on my own poor skills to attempt mods on a brand new 17B. I frankly have enough problems deciding just where and how to hang Command strips!

I'd give much for that expertise - and will surely do so in the coming years.
