Dinette modifications

We previously had a scamp 19 and at one point we got so fed up with the dinette we removed it entirely and just put in two chairs from IKEA. We refitted the dinette before passing it to our kids, but that is just a note on how much we hate sitting on flat benches.

So, after a couple of weeks on the road in the escape 5.0 we are looking at how to deal with the same issue, but not lose the functionality.

One option I’m looking at is installing the RecPro RV “Charles” dinette set. I haven’t run all the numbers, but I know it will require substantial modifications. The backs will need to be opened up to allow access to the storage and to fit around the water heater.

But, the seat bottoms are built more like a couch and less like a picnic table. I’m hoping it will be more comfortable.

Just wondering if anyone has done anything similar.

If you haven't already, try to find one and try it first. Some of the made for RV sofas & chairs are no more comfortable than the Escape cushions.

In my case, I replaced the front cushions in my 17B with West Marine High Back Chairs. Since I travel solo, I have one of them in my 21, replacing the passenger side cushion. Much more comfortable.

Thanks. I need to go by West to try those out. Not sure where I can find a RecPro to try out. Maybe camping world.
