DIY or have ETI install?
We have purchased the display model 2015 5.0 TA and are now trying to decide what options to add prior to picking up. The current exchange rate helps, so we are adding solar, spray foam and 3 of the counter extensions.
For additional 12V items like reading lights, power for a LED awning strip and more 12V/ USB outlets, are those easily added by a handy owner?
Also, we think we want the U shaped dinette. We're considering having ETI provide a filler board and cushion to span the back of the dinette for now so we can see if we really like the setup. Based on previous comments here, we will probably just use pillows for the back wall for now. If we like it, I think I have the skills to enclose the front bench and finish it out. The bar has been set high by several folks here with their dinette mods😀.
Anyway, I'm interested in what your experience has been. We're so excited and we might try to make a quick run to Chilliwack if we see a weather window prior to next spring.
Thanks in advance.
Chuck

For 12v outlets, it probably depends a lot on where you want them and how much you care about aesthetics. In general running more 12v is pretty straightforward, but keeping the wiring neat and hidden might be a lot easier before the wall coverings and cabinetry go in.

Don't know if it has already, but with the solar you might want to add the dual batteries..?

Congrats on the purchase Chuck, you got yourself a great trailer there.
Seeing the trailer is set up with a standard dinette, I would just do the filler board with cushion, and not bother with the bench, at least to start. One of the reasons I am even considering the U-shaped dinette is to have the rear bench to store the batteries and place other electric/electronic stuff. Seeing that stuff is set up in your trailer without the U-shape already, the space is not needed for that. What I like about the standard dinette, is you have more floor space, for guests feet, for pets, whatever. You lose floor space with the U-shape. If you find you really could use the storage, only then would I actually add the bench.
Just one guy's thoughts and opinions.

True, but this is the display model, which has been completed - the wall coverings and cabinetry are already in. At this point it's only a question of who does the work - ETI, another RV service, or the owner - anyone who does it will be working around a complete interior.

There's nothing you list that can't be done by someone who is careful and handy, just takes time and patience.
One of these sure helps too, the smaller the better.

I have found this tool to be useful also since most common attachment in your Escape uses this type of screw driver, a square head

Thanks for your input - this resonates with our reasons to purchase this unit to begin with. It has been a number of years since we have camped in a trailer, so this unit is not the end of that journey, but more of a new beginning where we get to see what works for us at this point in our lives.

Hi: Chuckster... Mr. Robertson's screws http://www.robertsonscrew.comare the best as you can place them on the tip of the screwdriver and apply them with one hand. The reason they didn't make it into the automotive world is they were too good at not slipping. Too easy to strip by over torquing with air tools on the assembly line. Alf

I think I remember seeing one of those in a museum. It's purpose is similar to the more modern version that works in an electric driver, just a lot more cumbersome.

Okay, okay, yes I do. I have at least 3 full sets of various hand tools, but my cramping fingers do love the powered ones.

Nah, I am a fast typer, using all my fingers, and the light touch on the keys does not seem to bother me much. Manually using a screwdriver, my hand siezes.
