Dog Ramp for 5.0?

My road warrior pal Rocky just loves being up in the bed of our 5.0, but he is getting older and can only get up the stairs easily sometimes; other times, particularly when he is tired after a big walk, he needs me to help him. Let me tell you from experience, trying to lift this guy myself up those stairs is no easy feat! I'm wondering if anyone else with a 5.0 has found a good solution for some kind of ramp, or other assistance for old pups?

Not the 5.0 steps, but I made a very narrow ramp for my 17b so my Cardi can get onto the bed (thick mattress). It's 9" wide so I can still walk in the aisle. I think you could do just a strip of plywood that you could put on the steps for him to walk up, then stash somewhere. (Mine needed a frame since it is free-standing.) Carpet it or paint and sand.

Another option is a harness such as one from Ruffwear that you can use to assist as he climbs the stairs. Down is probably harder on him, though, as those joints age.

Time for a new Escape, just for the dog! He is worth it.....one of my dogs was disabled and that was one reason we never got the 5.0 Escape.

Jasper used to come up for brief visits but has started developing rear hip stiffness and can no longer get up. He now stays down and we visit with him lots there. Now that he is over 13 we are not going to do anything to get him up. Maybe the odd lift as he is only 50 lbs.

We've had very good results with our 15 yr old Shar-Pei using this dog ramp. We use it both for entering our 19'er (yes, he's at the point that two steps can be difficult) and entering our Highlander (which is much higher). The ramp has three sliding sections which collapse together so it stores kind of easily.
