Dometic 9500e power button relocation

ETI's Dometic 9500e awning power button placement is in the kitchen cabinet, about 12" off the floor, by the entrance door. That location is a prime enticement for small grandkid curiosity.

We had an unfortunate incident where the switch was on as we traveled. We had to replace the awning fabric, but all is working well now.

We changed the awning power button location to keep it out of kid reach. We placed it in the curb side front ceiling cabinet next to the Dometic receiver control unit. This is also where we keep the Dometic awning wireless remote control, in the front shelf. Image is inside the curb side front ceiling cabinet, looking toward the front.

The switch is a Blue Sea Systems Stainless Steel Push Button Switch 20A, Off-ON, Blue color, model 4190. When turned on, the button shows a blue light. Image is looking at the front curbside ceiling cabinet at the front end of our trailer.

We are pleased with the results. Anyone with curious kids might consider such a location change. It's also an excellent reminder for us to check the awning power, especially when we return the remote control to its holder. The blue light is the visual indicator we need.

We reused the old awning power rocker switch for our new step downlight modification.

Nice
We always go through the eti checklist before leaving. So far that has worked. But we are only human, and 5even a lighted rocker switch would be better. May look into that.

That blue button looks great, and I like that it is lit when on.

We cheapped out instead and disallowed the grandkids from playing with the switch, and the attempt was made.

I do like that lighted switch though, maybe some day when life is not so busy......

This is also a good reminder to check the switch when breaking camp to leave. We have forgotten, but now both do the check.

If you come across a lighted rocker, do post a link.

I've done some research on lighted rockers when I installed one for the hot water heater. I don't know if this will fit but it is a larger, euro-style switch that mimics the kind I believe Escape uses for the awning. This one uses a 0.83" x 1.45" mounting hole.

Thanks, I will check that out later. I was just thinking, adding a small LED light right by the switch would work too, but I do like a switch with an 'on light' better.

For an illuminated switch or separate indicator LED, consider where you will access a 12 VDC negative (-) wire. In this side of the kitchen cabinet, I found only the positive (+) portion of the DC circuits for the inside lights, outside light, and awning. I had to run a wire inside the kitchen cabinet to the two-burner stove, which is the closest accessible negative-side wire.

I never dealt with any DC when building my galley, so nothing there has changed. If the switch just does the positive, I guess it would be needed to fish a negative in from either the upper cabinets, or the rear benches.

My range/oven burner ignitors are battery operated, and my only USB there is on an AC plug.

Yup...you can add an LED on both switches by the door. Not only does it tell you if the power is on but if placed on the bottom can light the way at night.

Jim, this is the lighted switch that I used. It was a like-for-like swap with the existing switch and snapped right into the plate. I’m no expert, but I fished in a negative lead to get the LED to illuminate.
I am very happy with the results.

Thanks for that, Fred. I like the snap in place idea. How bright is the light during the night if we were to leave the awning out I kinda like to keep the power on, just in case.

Not overwhelmingly bright, but enough to remind you that the power is on.

Fred, where were you yesterday?

I have now cancelled my order for the 3mm red leds (Eggscape mod) I ordered yesterday and replaced the order with two of these.

Anyway, if you get burned out with the house building and need a break, we could do the fried shrimp thing again.

Here are a couple of pictures from the amazon reviews but of course it is hard to tell from an amateur photo taken with other ambient light

Thanks for posting these images. They seem bright enough to notice.

We've wanted an indicator at night to verify that we have turned off all the outside lights. We like dark trailers for better dark skies. So these will do.

When you're ready.

Poutine is a Canadian thing - down here on the Gulf Coast, it's butterflied fried panko shrimp.

I lived on the coast somewhere except for college and 2 years in San Antonio. Then in 2012 we moved to Kansas and I do miss fried shrimp, scallops, and halibut.
