Dometic A/C Fan Speed

We have the new 5.0 TA with the Dometic A/C and remote thermostat. The thermostat allows 2 settings (Lo/High) for the fan speed when the A/C is running. Even on the 'Low' setting the sound level is loud. Looking for a way to reduce the fan speed further. Any electronics gurus out there that can suggest a solution?

Dometic has had numerous complaints about the noise level of the low profile AC units (Penguin II), both the Heat pump version and the non-heat pump (although the heat pump models appear to have more reported problems). Dometic does offer a "soft rubber grommet" installation kit, and they will install them for free if the AC unit is less than 2 years old. You might want to call them. The fan noise on these units will be somewhat loud no matter what -- since they are not ducted but attached directly to the roof shroud. But I've read several reports that installing the grommet kit reduced the noise to an acceptable level. You may be able to reduce the fan speed with a resistor or some other mod, but I can't speak to that.

when you say the "remote thermostat", is that the dometic digital thermostat? Just curious as to what I am in for when we pick up the trailer.

I have found most of the noise we hear on our AC is coming from the compressor and not the fan. But one thing you have to think about is there is a minimum amount of air you can flow over the AC evaporator coil without it freezing up. And just playing a hunch I would bet that low-speed is very close to the minimum amount air flow you can go over the evaporator with out it freezing up.

Yes this is the optional digital thermostat that was installed by Escape.

That is a very good point. Lowering the speed may reduce the noise, but at the cost of operating properly.
