The newer trailers use a gas strut instead of hook. I use a bungee to awning when needed.

You mean to prevent it from moving from the 90* open position towards closing?

Yes Ron. I like the strut, but I know some who prefer the hook. I’ve had both now, and after 50+ nights, I’m happy with the strut.

I might resort to epoxy, 5200, VHB, or Eternabond for adhesives in lieu of fasteners if so inclined. However, if I felt the need for something, I’d probably personally just use fasteners.

Yes, I've had both and I now prefer the strut. Funny though, when the new style door and the strut that held it at 90* first came out I hated the idea. Now that I have them and have used them a lot I think they're great.
But back to the OP, is the problem that when the door is open at 90* it gets blown shut?
Ron

I think the strong winds is something to live with, just leave door closed. Wind blew all day.

The non-drill solution is to make someone stand there and hold the door.

We had wind gusting to 30+mph all day yesterday 30 miles east of Austin.
It happens but is hardly common, some rare days just lend to closing doors rather than devising 'solutions'. Today's much more moderate ~9 mph gusts were well within the capabilities of the strut to manage, no problems.
I'm not camping but have been in-and-out of the trailer at home these days working on mods.
I hope you're enjoying your stay at Aransas Pass!

We added these friction hinges from Lippert to allow the removal of the gas strut from our 2019 E19 as we did not care for the 90 degree opening limitation.

They work well and we are pleased with the addition. Our camping thus far has not included any heavy wind conditions so YMMV.

Thank you so much for posting about these friction hinges! I had no idea they existed! I have just ordered a set via Amazon for my Hauley's door (like a Lil Snoozy, only hollow for cargo). I use this trailer daily to make merchandise deliveries, I'm in and out through that door (briefly) 20-30 times a day, and I hate taking time to secure it every single time. Not only will they prevent the door from swinging around with every sudden swirl of breeze, but I can use them to take out the sag in the old, worn hinges. 2 problems, 1 solution!

I can't find anything on my entry door that tells me what brand it is. Anyone know what is in a 2021 21NE? This would be a great option to have these hinges.

Perhaps missing on yours, but on my 2021 5.0 there's a part number tag on the edge of the door (not door frame) a few inches above the lower hinge (must open the door to see the tag). That tag identifies it as a Lippert brand door ("Lippert" is partly hidden under the door gasket- lift the gasket to see that).
I suppose it's possible yours is not, but unlikely, you may recall ours were built near the same dates. I would think ETI uses a single vendor for the doors they install (I could be wrong yet again!).
Hope that helps, Keep Having Fun!

Thx LR, that sounds like the best solution for me. Don't have to take door or hinges off. Will check my door numbers.
