Did you not get one with the trailer, Dave? They are readily available at any place that sells RV supplies.

Jim,
Yes I did. I think Jon may have made an adapter to plug directly into the milenco removable power cord plug at the trailer, milenco has an L shapped prong at the trailer plug. You can buy an milenco adapter, however they are fairly expensive. Or just plug the supplied adapter into the end of the power cord that goes to the pole, which works very well. Plugging directly into the trailer would eliminate using the power cord......... Which I assume Jon did

They are a little pricey, I have one of these for at home

Here is a photo of the adapter. It is made with #12 wire. While standard adapters would work, this gives me a way to carry a "spare" Marinco connector, something that might be hard to find on the road. It also saves getting out the 30' #10 cord when hooking up to 15 amp sites. While I carry a 25' #12 cord in the RAV4 whether camping or not, I've even found a few sites where I could use this adapter alone.

More photos & descriptions of my far too many modifications on me Trailer Modifications Page.

Jon, what advantage have you found using that adapter as opposed to one on the end of the 30A cord? I used to carry a short 15A extension cord, but found I never used it. I do have a short 30A cord for those few times with hookups and a real long reach.

I too am real happy with changing to a removable power cord.

I carry an inverter in the RAV4 & use the standard extension cord for that. Since it is already there, the short #12 adapter I built lets me use a lighter cord when camping at 15 sites & at home. As I mentioned, I found a few sites where the power post was so close I could use the adapter alone rather than getting out either the heavy #10 or lighter #12 cords.

Again, there is not real advantage, but I try to carry replacement parts for things that are hard to find on the road, and decided to put the replacement Marinco connector to use.

To be honest, with me having no A/C yet, I really don't have need for a 30A connection. Only on rare occasion, say water heater on, fridge, a bit of a draw from the converter, and maybe an electrical kettle would be the biggest load I have. Might make sense to lighten the load until the time I may want A/C.

Jon,

Thanks for the photo. Looks like a good idea and having an extra plug is smart planning.

Agreed, one trip I had left my power cord at home by mistake, all I had was my adapter and a 15 amp extension cord in my front box, managed to camp a week like that, good to have a back up.

Jim, sounds like you need a checklist.

I used to balk at checklists, but as I age, they seem to help my remembry out a wee bit.

Plus, when you divide the check list up into "you do this part and I'll do that part", you know who has to do the dishes for the rest of the trip when something does get forgotten!
