Not sure it can still be done, but I had my April 2012 delivered 19 built to the original (2 inches lower) spec.. + lower centre of gravity + lower aerodynamic drag - less ground clearance + 2in lower step height that even my mother can navigate easily

Here's the mod for the double step from the shop (one of my customers) that installs them on Escape trailers:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The secret to installing the double step is in the design of the step itself. Casita welds two 3" c channel outriggers to the frame to carry the step. In typical style, they're not parallel nor are they the same distance apart. We experimented with 4 brands of steps until we found the ETD version that works.

If you refer to the drawing again you will see that at the top middle, there is a 1/8" x 1 1/2" piece of steel strap welded to connect the sides. This is not necessary once the step is connected solidly to it's mounts.

With the operating mechanism at the bottom of the step not the top, we cut this steel strap loose and it allows about 3/8" flex in and out or out of parallel of the upper mounting area of the step without affecting operation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed a double step modified as above on my Casita after I upsized the tires/wheels and it worked very smoothly. Just needed to drill a couple of new mounting holes in the outriggers.

If Reace wants to try and install it, I'll ship it to ETI for my 21 (due 8/22!)

This number will vary depending on the slope of the lot. What exactly are you trying to determine?

Yes, indeed, it will vary, but just trying to get a close measurement so that we can make a step stool that extends the entry step...kind of like what Myron did for his entry steps. I know it won't be exact but trying to get close.

Right now mine is 11" to the step top. Have you also considered a step brace, here is an example
Amazon.com: Camco 43691 Save-A-Step Brace (7-5/8"-14"): Automotive. There is also one you can attach to the step. Either one of these will make that first step rock solid.

Thanks! We want to make a step so that the trailer entry step would be a wider total step...if that makes sense. We want to do this so that our 8-year old blue heeler doesn't jump from trailer to ground all the time (as that entry step is kind of narrow for a dog who wants to go when she is on her leash) and thought that making a step would be helpful in that regard. We shall see!

Our dog rarely uses the step, preferring to hop over it, either coming or going.

I do like that simple solution of yours, Bryan.

my guinness (45 pds of terrier) jumps most flights of steps he jumped up on the hand rail of a deck and walked it like a cat. Hoping someday he will live long enough to get old and slow down a little!

Good ideas, I find the fold down steps a little close to the entrance. As another idea , years ago we use to go to a step class at the gym and they had these steps that are about 2 feet plus long and 14 inches wide. You could add platforms under them to adjust the heights by about 3 inches, That is what we used for the Casita and now (currently) for the Escape

We have been using spa steps for our folding Chalet (17B Escape will be ordered in January). Safe and comfortable steps, and quite lightweight.
