Escape Bathroom door

Recent discussions on the the weak factory hinge Escape installs got me thinking about putting in a new door with stronger hinges. If you reinforce the door walls and build a frame on the outside, something like this should work? Of course it would open the other way. Comments....

I disagree with the phrase "weak factory hinge".
It's worked just fine for me for almost eight years.
The door you illustrate may allow air to pass, but will also allow odors to pass and noises.
And, having had to cut a louvered door down to fit myself, I warn that you'll find it a real chore putting it back together.

I myself have not had any issues with the hinge, I'm merely repeating what others have said.

We've had zero issues with the door, but I grant you, it's a relatively new trailer. I tend to agree with Glenn that although a louvered door would look better, it would also allow some 'unpleasant' odors to escape into the living area. This is one small trailer we're talking about. With a solid door and the roof mounted bathroom exhaust fan, any odor is dissipated quickly.

Did they change the door between 2014 and 2015? Ours has large gaps top and bottom. Effectively, there's not much difference between that and a louvered door.

Probably the best way of dealing with odors would be a door that fits without gaps, an opening window and the ceiling exhaust fan. But, as has been said, it's a small trailer.

Months back, Rob (Rob and Linda) of Casita fame thought they'd be buying an Escape. Instead they bought an 2014 Airstream 23D International Serenity. Anyway.. Rob completely modded their Casita, one was the bathroom door. Rather than all louvers, perhaps top and bottom may be of interest?

That would deal with odours, but how would the bathroom get any heat (or if using air conditioning, any cooling)? I suppose the door could be left open when the bathroom is not in use (after suitable venting time), but the open door could be in the way (how much depending on floorplan).

bathroom door

How I strap the door shut . Cut a piece of vinyl strip . Install snaps , buy at building supply stores etc, , very easy to install . snap closed if i am going down the road . Pat

That gap at the top and bottom happened after 2012 to allow heat and air to exchange with the bathroom. My 2012 Escape 19 had the first window in the bath but a full door. I had to vent the door to allow the air come in the bath window (it was an awning one also). Sometime later the door was made smaller as well as Escape started to insulate the entrance door because my 2012 was not. So things do change.

Ours does have a small gap at the top - very small.

Yes, the solid door means the bathroom gets quite cold when we're camping in a cold place. I don't worry about it - just freeze my buns off.

That is another reason to upgrade to a 21' Escape, the ability to mount a small electric heater under the bed that heats the bath, I'll miss that.....

We've got about an inch above and below the door. Not a heck of a lot of heat gets in the bathroom unless you leave the door open, seems more for the vent then for heat.

We didn't like that look when we bought our 2015 17B, it kind of made the door look like it shrunk from to much moister. So we asked them to make it full height, which they did.

We just leave the bathroom door open at night.
