The wiring was easy. The hard part was getting the wires out of the small hole and getting them back in. I plan to remove the fan and make a stainless steel plate with maybe 8 screws holding the fan up. I don't see the 3 small screws holding the fan long term.

We have six Flame King cylinders. Conservatively over the years we have filled each 5-10 times, with the biggest user our Mr Buddy heater. It sickens me to see all those one-use cylinders thrown into the garbage just to end up at a landfill.

Enjoy,

Perry

Why are they not recyclable? Aluminum or another type of metal?

How many do you think are realistically recycled? I doubt even 10%.

There is also a cost of recycling. It will be interesting to see how long these Flame Kings last, but so far they've paid for themselves many times over.

Enjoy,

Perry

My sister gave me a couple Flame King refillable cylinders for Christmas and I've been meaning to get them out of the garage and teach myself how to use them. Thanks for the reminder! Nice to hear that you and Perry like and use them. -Bea.

PS Oh just remembered, that a part (a small Allen wrench) was missing in my Flame King box so initially I couldn't fill up my cylinders. So I contacted Flame King customer support and they responded right away. They immediately sent me 2 Allen wrenches - Kudos to them!

Bea, use reasonably thick rubber gloves when filling. Think reusable. That liquid LP that comes out of the bleeder hole is really cold.

Enjoy,

Perry

Here in the Ontario Provincial Parks there are wire mesh bins for recycling the propane cylinders. I can't ride my bike past without stopping to see how many half filled cylinders I can get for free. I haven't bought a cylinder in 5 years.

I have yet to refill any of my propane tanks and I'm on my 5th Escape? Seems like I sell too early?

They're steel, and can certainly be recycled; however, some care is required (such a venting them first) so it is necessary to take them to a facility which is set up to handle them (not just tossing them in the "blue box" or other general recycling collection container). Of course refilling a suitable cylinder (of any size) is obviously better than recycling the container with each use.

Coleman introduced the Green Key tool as a way to allow the consumer to vent used cylinders to assist in recycling, but even without that they can still be handled.

Aluminum is recyclable, too, although that's not what these one-pound cylinders are made of.

Coleman's Green Key Tool was released in 2008. Thirteen years later people aren't using them. They're still throwaways and not exactly environmentally friendly, no matter how you look at them, Green Key or not.

Enjoy,

Perry

Have you done this install yet? Can you show how you mounted these up and deleted the Maxfan switches? Thanks! I really like this solution.
