I’ll throw in one more fan, the Geek Aire brand on the ‘Zon. Run for up to 20 hours, whisper quiet and variable speed…maybe a larger footprint than you might want but it’s really amazing as far as pushing air efficiently..

We added a Road Master 12 Volt fan in the location of one of the captains lights. We were very diappointed with it. It looked great but was very loud and rattled. It's going in the garbage.

I was recently watching a episode of VanCity VanLife on Youtube and noticed he had 2 really cool looking fans in his van. They were on while recording the video, they were really quiet and looked cool. The Caframo Sirocco 2 is pricy but I want a high quality fan that is quiet. I would rather not run the AC unless I have to, it's so loud.

Thank you everyone who replied! I really appreciate it!

I did notice that most of those fans recommended were direct wire. If you have a Camframo or similar that is direct wire--did you do it yourself or hire someone to wire it in? Where did you wire it into?

Thanks!

These fans are 12v so any 12v source should suffice......

I find the stock o/h vent fan on low is hardly discernible......

Many used wire drops or the optional Captains lights for power. I would guess most wired the themselves. It’s a future project for me.

TravelMama,

The Caframo 747 has the 12 volt lighter-plug. You can get a permanent base, a suction base or a clamp base. I mostly used clamp bases on mine although I did permanently mount one. The bases are interchangeable.

I have a Caframo 747 in my Amazon cart but haven't purchased it yet because I seem to be able to manage air flow with the MaxFan and windows.

I did have one larger permanently mounted Caframo similar to the Sirocco II fan.

I have 2 Caframo Sirocco II 12 volt fans installed in my E5.0 - one serves the dinette/kitchen area and the other the loft area. Multi-speed & fairly adjustable.

When my roof ac was out I used a single-hose portable ac that kept the main floor area comfy to about window level. The single-hose units draw outside air IN thru windows & such so a 2-hose unit that has an intake hose that you put outside like the exhaust hose so it would be more effective. I bought the portable for use in my screen room but used it inside until I replaced the rooftop unit. Something like my Honda 2000 would easily run the portable ac.

Did your rooftop unit fail on your 2019? What was it, what broke and what did you replace it with?

The original ac for my 2019 E5.0 (default install by ETI) was noisy but definitely made it cold; it died after about a year. At first the compressor would run but not the fan. Removing the cover did not expose any blockage for the fan & it turned freely. Just before replacing the unit there wasn’t even the hum of the compressor.

I had it replaced in Dec 2021 with the Houghton/Rec Pro 13.5 cool-only unit. This unit does not use a thermostat (handheld remote only). I had to replace the original thermostat with a heat-only unit for the furnace and the thermostat wiring for the furnace at the AC location needed changing since the new unit has no link to the ac like the old ac/thermostat did.

A year? Wow that is scary. Just changed the capacitors on my dometic and its 5 years old. I like what I have read about Houghton but hope to not need to buy one anytime soon

Doug, can this fan be mounted where the captain's light is too?

Personally I would not even bother with anything other than the Caframo or Hella offerings.

For all prospective Escape owners I'd encourage you to have a 12v drop placed in each overhead cabinet for you to install a fuse block on.

I have a 12V drop in upper cabinet next to the exterior door in my 5.0. I think its used for the power awning if optioned. I didn't order it, but will probably use it for a hella fan after I install the TV .

I have the Caframo Sirocco II in sleeping area. Its draws very little power. not cheap but a good fan. before that I used a portable 02cool rechargeable fan. will run on 12 volt 120 volt or rechargeable battery .
