Flip up counter extension

Hi. I came across this video and wanted to share the idea. This gentleman created a flip up counter extension that uses the sink cover as the counter. He talks about this at the beginning of the video so you needn’t watch the entire video if you don’t want to.

Yes, I have done this in the past, but you need to request "no hole drilled" in the sink cover during your build process.

Speaking of counter extension, how do you keep your from flopping around while traveling?

Sounds good to me! I wasn't sure if that would be a problem for the hinges.

I believe if you can find them, the hinges seem to lock in the up position....the factory may have a source for them....

Hi Kathy, I asked the same question a few months ago! Take a look at this thread https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...tml#post373244.

This system is working well for us. The counter extension stays attached nicely with the magnets. No more bouncing and less stress on the hinges during travel and super easy to use - just pull up. -Bea

I'm not sure that I understand the concern with "flopping around".

I made two custom ones and they feel like there's enough resistance in the mechanism that they wouldn't be likely to do any flopping around.

The one in the video was interesting, always nice to be able to a custom job to meet your needs. In my case they were sized to keep other switches etc. accessible. Hated having to lift the one in the 19 to access the 110V outlet.

The counter extension does not lock in a down position, only in an open and up position. So, there is the concern that the extension will be banging into the side of the cabinet while traveling, ie. if you are on a rough road, or hit a bump, etc.

I'm a little unsure why this is perceived as a problem. Has anyone seen or suffered damage from their counter extensions flopping around?

Interesting solution to a problem in the video and an innovative solution. Always nice to be able to do a custom mod to meet your particular needs.

I made a couple of counter extensions that meet my needs. Both are sized to avoid covering switches etc. I hated having to lift the extension in the 19 to access the 110V outlet under it. The one by the door is likely not as wide as the factory one. It's less in the way when passing by it to enter or exit.

There is a bit of stiffness in the hinge arms and I can't imagine that they would flop around.

Ron, Your counter extensions look great! The difference must be that your hinge arms have 'a bit of stiffness' to them but ours have absolutely none. Well done! -Bea

Yes they are nice, Ron. And ours have no stiffness whatsoever! 😁😁

I cut ours down and it is left up all the time . It holds our water . Bed area we also have 2 more and I redid those and made them larger as well as changing out the Formica .needed somewhere for glasses , books etc. the one by the door cut to allow going in and out of trailer without putting up and down . I have to agree. I have two drop-downs, one I leave up and one I leave down during travel. After seven years of camping I've yet to have a problem. The pic is a custom one I had glassed in during production:
