Front storage box
We recently bought an Escape 21 and i would like to put an after market storage box on the the front. I would like to hear from anyone who has installed one e.g. make and cost and functionality. Thanks

Have you picked it up yet? Possibly they will add it at pickup without a build sheet charge??

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but if I add a front utility box to our 21 in the future, I'm giving serious consideration to this one from Northern Tool:

I'm pretty sure someone on this forum has already installed one of these on their 21. I hope they see this thread and reply and give us both an update on their experience so far.

The issue with installing an after market box is two fold. Weight as well as clearance. The factory box is tapered as sharp turns can cause damage to your tow vehicle if not careful.

Wish we weren't so far away because you need to see the box that the previous owner added to ours. The first rally I went to that other Escape owners were at, a few commented on how much they liked the box. That owner said he had it made at a local welding shop and it was $750.00 US. Its all aluminum and 4 of the HD plastic storage boxes fit in it perfectly, it also has the two propane tanks inside and still plenty of room in the cavity for water hose, outdoor mat we use and a few other things. I LOVE OUR BOX .
Here are a few pictures, not very detailed on the box but at least what it looks like on trailer.

Enjoy the journey.

Steve
Is it possible to take a photo from overhead with the lid open, so we can see how things are arranged inside? Am considering a box like this for our 17B.
Thanks

Nice box Steve, I had one of those aluminum box on my Eggcamper. Two things to compare the aftermarket box shown and the stock box is(1) the stock extends over to the trailer edge, protecting the lower trailer from road debris (2) with the stock box being wider, any damage from tight turns will hit the box and not the trailer. If turns and road debris are not an issue, then that box is certainly a good substitute.

A third consideration - but only on a 19 - would be that you don’t really want to store your propane and your batteries in the same enclosed container.

Here is mine...
I like the ledge on the left and right. Convenient place for a box of disposable gloves or misc. tools I'm actively using while hooking the trailer to the TV or leveling. Also like that I can open the lid with either latch so I can open/close from one side without having to reach or walk to the other side. The one big negative is that it doesn't provide any protection to the front of the trailer. For this reason alone, I'm thinking about having ETI install the factory box. I don't care for the look of the vinyl corner protectors and would like to get rid of them.
PS: Thanks to the moderator that is rotating my pics .

I’ve often thought that the stainless steel rock guards that Airstream offers for their rigs would look sharp on an Escape! Shiny!

That's a good idea! I was thinking that the same diamond plate material that is used on my front box would look good too.

I also have a 2010 17B and have not yet found a stock box that would fit. Can you please tell me the maker, model number and outside dimensions? It looks like it fits well with no contact with the Escape. I use a WDH and need to deal with that for installation. Do you have a WDH hitch, and how did you handle it?
(Wish I was closer to WA, would take your old box off your hands.)

If my memory serves me correct there was a recent posting of an older Escape with the aluminum front box and wings on each side for protection.

Marant,
The brand is Better Built. I can't find a model #, but dimensions are: 70" wide at top, 58" wide at bottom, 16:" deep and 12" front to back. Whoever installed it also welded a frame for it to sit on. I will attach a pic so you can see. I think they wanted it elevated so it's an easy reach and don't have to bend down to the box. I don't have any trouble with it interfering with my TV. I tow with a Rav4 and the spare tire on the back door hits the tongue jack before the toolbox ever becomes a problem.
Yes, I have a WDH. A Fastway 4500lb E2 trunnion with sway control. Not sure your question about the WDH? I do store the WDH in the box when not in use.

Thanks. The elevation of the box solves any interference with the WDH.

The ETI box definitely helps to protect the fiberglass on your Escape. My Escape has the ETI supplied box and it has taken quite a lot of abuse from debris without suffering any damage other than a few scuffs on the bedliner type finish that Escape uses on the box. I am sure that without the box, my fiberglass would have significant chipping from rocks and debris hitting it.
I don't remember who it was but there was a new Escape owner on this site a while back who posted pictures of his brand new Escape with terrible rock chip damage to the front of his Escape.

The member was minnranger and the damage to his Escape occurred while travelling on gravel roads during his maiden trip. Here is the thread.
