Garbage Can Solution

Someone mentioned somewhere on these forums looking for a solution to a garbage can.

Maybe one of these would be helpful. I'm ordering the 1 gallon size, as I don't generate much garbage and would rather dump the trash more frequently.
http://www.organize.com/racksackbags.html 3 - 5 gallon

http://www.organize.com/racksackbath.html 1 gallon

Someone told me these are available at Ace Hardware too.

Hope it helps.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Wow! I just checked the Ace database and these are available at the big stores or can be special ordered from any neighborhood Ace HW store.

The 3-5 Gal Rack Sack should be about $14.99 USD or less (Ace #66948). Refill bags are...oops, looks like the company may have gone out of business.

If you like the Rack Sack, see if Ace can still order it for you (quickly). I suppose approx. size alternate trash bags can be found.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Thanks Edgar. I don't think finding replacement bags will ever be a problem... until plastics are banned. I purchased a 110 bag roll of small bags at Wal-Mart for about a $2.50. They're even Vanilla scented. Brand name "Ruffies." I like the idea of the garbage being out-of-sight and nothing to knock over. I originally thought I'd like the larger size, but doing some measurements, it's too wide to fit the door opening. I know too some don't want to drill holes anywhere. There are other methods one could use to attach the system I suppose. I don't mind drilling what's needed. It satisfies the need and it's not like I'll keep drilling in the same area. I may have to mount a small piece of wood across the back of the door to ensure I don't drill all the way through.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Will those fit on the cupboard door? I don't know what the dimensions are. I personally liked the idea of the solid plastic one that fits in a metal frame that one then places a plastic bag.
The advantage of the "frame ones is that if there isn't a bunch of stuff inside, then less cupboard space is lost. I do like the idea of not having a container "underfoot".

Re: Garbage Can Solution

The one gallon size that I'm interested in:
* Fits most cupboard doors - 1 gal.,8"L x 9-1/4"H x 3-1/2"W

The three to five gallon size:
* Measures 18" H x 13" W x 8" D
which is too wide for my use.

For the solid can system by Rack Pack, here's a link:
http://www.organize.com/doorwas.html
Size: 13" tall x 9 3/4" wide x 7" deep
Capacity: 2.25 gallons (8.5 liters).

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Another post that went astray:

Check out the stainless steel compost buckets at Leevalley.com

I keep it under the bed and maintain cupboard space.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Wally World has 2 and 3 liter step flip lid cans for about $10.00. Short enough to store with about a 10" diameter.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

I just bought a small plastic flip top garbage can which I used in the upper shelf of the Boler wardrobe (we had all baskets and shelves) Plastic grocery bags fir perfect in it.
It does fit under the sink in the Escape, but not with the flip top in proper position (so greatway to store it when travelling). When we are camped I will just store it under the bed as we fully intend to keep that area free and clear...(note I said --we intend!)

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Here is our solution to the garbage can issue:

When we first added the container, it had a swing top on it. It would be great if it still worked, but was broken within a couple days of use. We used to store it in the bathroom until I discovered the wonders of sticky-backed velcro. We try not to use plastic liners in the container. Wet garbage is discarded in something that can contain or absorb it until the whole bag is taken away - daily.

We like to compost as much of the green waste as we can. On our recent one week trip we saved compost-ables in a Tupperware/Rubbermaid cereal container until we returned home. We probably won't be able to do that for extended trips of longer than a week.

Re: Garbage Can Solution

Hi: All... We have a great little garbage pail/w a flip up lid that fits in the cubby under the furnace. I can't remember the name, Kibby I think, trailer sized and not too expensive, from IKEA...Alf
