Gas Strut for 21 Under Bed Hatch

Hi Folks,

Quick question for everyone - we have a 21 (what ETI is now calling the Classic). Has anyone tried installing a gas / hydraulic strut on the hatch beneath the bed? I store some bulkier items under there, but it is always a pain to get them when lifting the mattress and the hatch. I imagine it would have to be a somewhat sturdy strut in order to hold the mattress up when extended. I can probably figure it out, but wanted to see if anyone blazed this trail already. Not much luck with searching the forum.

Thanks!

We are struggling a lot to get the struts installed. Watched the video a number of times. Seems that no matter where we locate the struts either the hatch won’t stay open or it won’t close. If anyone has done this mod and can give us the measurements that worked on your 21C ..

Struts are sized by the weight they have to lift. If you added a foam mattress, or heavy topper you will have to buy stronger struts.

Food for thought,

Perry
