HELP - Shoe Storage Ideas Please!

I've searched through this forum looking for shoe storage ideas and have seen a couple of options for the inside of the trailer door and one for a slide-out box installed in a cabinet.

We have a "Classic 19" and are about to leave on a 6-week trip through Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. I am stumped on inside shoe storage and would sure appreciate any and all ideas that out there before "putting my foot down"

Thank you!!

IKEA hanging shoe holder works wonders

Hello there. I bet you're looking forward to your adventures!

Here is an option from IKEA, it hangs in the closet pefectly, width-wise. It's called SKUBB, and sells in white or black, and costs $4.99.
It is 4-shoes wide by 4-shoes high; the one in our closet we cut down to 2 shoes high, and we store bathroom items in it. You may be able to make 3-shoes high fit in your closet, especially if you can rig a way for the top bar of the rack to get closer to the closet rod, such as with zip ties.

So, stop by an IKEA on your way to your destination...

Best wishes,
DavidGlen

Shoes inside the door

In the "Modifications and Alterations" section, there is a post titled "Mods I Haven't Seen Elsewhere". Post #8 shows shoes inside the curved door of the prior molds of Escape 19's. (Also bear spray and a flashlight.) It looks like 3M Command hooks were used to hold the shoe pouch.

Best of luck in your adventure,

Whew, for a minute I thought that was a photo of our door shoe storage. But then saw the comment about the bear spray and I knew that it wasn't. We don't keep bear spray in the door.

It's a handy place for misc. shoes. Easy to access from outside or before going outside. That IKEA unit looks perfect for that use.

We miss having all that storage on our old airplane-style 17B door. We also hung our garbage pail there. The screen on our new 2G flat-door 19 prevents such utility, alas.

I think I’ve finally figured out a solution until a more permanent fix is made.

Walmart, and others, sell a closet shoe organizer that is normally folded up if not used, then attached to the closet rod with heavy Velcro, It then folds down with multiple pockets suitable for shoes, clothes, etc. Under $15.

We also use a wider one for clothes in our Bigfoot.

More shoe options

CamanoCouple,

Here are two more options...

1. We put shoes in the cupboard below our refrigerator.
2. We have hung an over-the-door coat hook on the bathroom door for coats - it could also be used for shoes. We remove the hook for travel, because it could be too much weight and strain on the door. It's handy when parked, however!

Best to you in your travels,

DavidGlen

When we had a 19, we stored our footwear in the dinette seat cupboard just inside the door. Worked great for us.

I put a toekick heater there, but still have room for 3 pair of shoes on a shelf I added above it. I added a cupboard right by the door that holds all our footwear.

Jim, what are the inside dimensions of that cupboard by the door? Looking at having an open cupboard all the way down to the floor in that space as a possible location for the cats' litter box.

Not sure if you are aware, but I had Escape lower the outside batch to accommodate this cupboard. I also did some other custom cabinetry elsewhere. The inside dimensions are about 16D x 16W x 18H. It could be even higher if you put the bottom in lower, plus I added a second drawer in the upper left which took a bit of potential height away.

Here is a photo I just took of the inside. I do plan to add a shelf some time.

Thanks! I think I'd probably have them make the opening go all the way down to the floor and make me a door, but leave it off so I could put it up later if we stopped using it for the litter box. I'm sure I could find some kind of plastic storage box that would fit into that space to serve as a litter box. Ah, the lengths we go to for our cats. We had a stick and tin rig with a small shower and put the litter box in there - we generally use campground showers so the Escape shower arrangement is fine with us, but causing a few issues with the cats - doesn't look like there is enough floor space in the bathroom for us to put a box in there and be able to step around it to get to the toilet. And in our old rig I cut an opening at the bottom of the bath door so the cats could get in and out....probably wouldn't want to do that to this door even if a litter box would fit in there.

The outside hatch accesses the area at the floor. I built my own opening leaving the framing on both sides. If you wanted, you could frame the opening wider.

A litter box would fit in the bath, but like you are thinking, it would likely be very tight trying to manoeuvre to use the toilet.

Another spot to consider for a litter box, is under the passenger side dinette seat. If you get the U-shaped dinette, this space is empty. You could add an opening in the front of it. I am considering a door (or two) there to better access this storage space. I did not get the optional exterior access hatch in this location.

That little heater is neat - we've always used a little portable but it would be nice to have a built-in. Did you just have Escape add an outlet or junction box under the step for it? And is airflow around it not a problem - does it pull air in through the front panel?

Under the dinette is my Plan B - I'd rather not have to take the top off the dinette to scoop several times a day, and not sure whether an outside hatch there would provide enough space to do that. Just found out there are two 5.0TA's in Austin, hopefully we'll be able to get together with one or both of those folks and when I can see one in person I'll have a lot better idea of what will work. Just trying to get all my questions in order first...

Unfortunately, this company no longer makes this heater. There are other good toe kick or toe space heaters out there though. We love the location of it, we just have to keep Jasper from laying there when it is in use.
