Hits and Misses after Month Long Trip Escape 19

We just finished a 8,100 mile, 30 day trip in our new to us 2013 Escape 19.

Some Hits and Misses for us on this trip (mostly simple mods that have been discussed by others):

Hits:

1. Ikea Studvik suction cup mounted hooks, towel bar, toothbrush holder: All never came loose, all worked as desired on this trip. The hooks are quite handy, mounted one near the door for keys, a couple by the sink, etc.

2. Bathroom Shelves from RV Widget Works. Even tall items like shampoo bottles never dislodged in travel.

3. King Size RV Super Bag: Quick and easy to make the bed and roll out.

4. Kamenstein Paper Towel holder, the one from Amazon everyone recommends.

5. F150: Back up camera (once I knew what I was looking at), extended tow mirrors (aftermarket via eBay)

6. Options on our trailer that were very useful: Detachable power cord, side door on dinette bench, front storage box.


Misses:

1. TV: I put a fair amount of time into getting our TV mount to fit the larger TV I bought. We watched it ONCE, maybe 45 minutes.

2. Microwave: Used once as well, took up storage space, PITA to get out under the bed (toast oven was in M/W cabinet, which we used a lot).

3. A/C: Could it be any LOUDER?

4. Studvik (Ikea) soap dispenser: leaked, worthless.

5. My installation of the RV Widget Works Shelves: Put one too low, toilet lid did not clear. Measure twice, install once.......


Upgrade from a Casita Liberty = Priceless!


One side "benefit" of our trip is living a month in a ~98 sq ft trailer makes our ~980 sq ft house feel like a McMansion!

Bill: Quite a trip! I've been waiting for someone else to tackle my mini-split mod and leverage the forum to figure out how to get over the hurdle of the front storage box (where I have my outdoor unit located). Blaze the trail my friend and be rewarded with only the second Escape 19 on the planet with a whisper quiet A/C!

I had mixed results with the Studvik (Ikea) hanging system. The individual hooks were fine for light items. The soap dispenser continues to work fine. The plastic tray was useless. The slight curve to the Escape bathroom walls or the weight of the tray forced me to put it in the recycle bin.

If you'd come to the Osoyoos Rally, you could have put it on Leon's swap table...See you on the Big Muddy!

And BTW, we need to change the name. I was talking to someone at the rally and telling him about the Mississippi Rally and he said " I'm not going down there!!!" IMHO it should be the Midwest Rally. But you're the Boss.

Some works some don't. The bull in a china shop syndrome gets me in trouble often enough.
Be careful if you decide to screw them up to the wall. Fall Rally in the Upper Mississippi Valley gets my vote. As opposed to say " Have a ball down where they say "You All" Rally. Unload you're heaters boys, I was just kidding. Camping below Gavin's Point Dam near Yankton SoDak tonight. Peaceful but made 90F today. Oops fell out of my chair as I was snapping this

My experience is they MUST go on a flat section of the wall. So careful placement is key, as a portion of each wall in the bathroom is curved.

My towel rack fell down more than once - of course usually in the middle of the night.

I put them back up with heavy duty double stick velcro pads trimmed to fit the round curves and the long bits on the thingies that stick to the wall. So far, knock on wood, they've stayed up. Including on SUPER bumpy roads where other things got flung all over the place. I do take the towels off while in transit. The rack did come off once during transit without any towels on it.

I also used the velcro on the TP holder. Yep, got one of those as I discovered I much prefer to roll out my paper (that's on a holder we're all used to using at home) over taking the roll out of the covered holder that came with the trailer. Quite easy to fling the roll on the bed before taking a shower.
