How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
I've got a challenge. Has anyone designed a workable system for their overhead shelves (dishes, cans, etc.) that prevent them from moving while travelling. Non-slip materials really don't work well even when you fasten it with velcro. Things still tip. Adjustable partitions are one thought. Placing item in individual storage units within the cabinets is another thought. Any bright ideas out there.

If you put enough stuff in the cupboard, there is no room for the stuff to tip over.

Quit driving like a wild man.
Actually, Glenn is right on the money with his suggestion. If you fill up the space, things won't tip over or move around so much. This is what we do. We will stuff a pillow or jacket in to take up extra space.
Our pots and pans are in a roll-out basket so they don't move around at all.

Re: How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
Hi: JerryCpei... When we got our 5.0 it came with a whole bunch of white $ $tore plastic storage baskets 2-3" deep and 10-12" long and narrow enough to fit in the o'head cupboards. Food stuffs, cans, small boxes etc fit in them and you can lift out one and slide the others up if needed. As for the dishes creative packing and the camper duty non skid...not Wallow Mart weight stuff keeps the set of Corel Ware in place.
I got a neat set of stacking wine glasses at Stokes this year and we keep a couple of foam can huggers between stuff and a set of rolly polly salt n pepper shakers with snap lids travel in the huggers.
Being former 13' Boler owners you find creative ways of packing tight. Now we only do it to keep stuff upright Alf

Re: How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
We have some small plastic baskets that fit into the cupboards and carry small things and keep them from moving. You can find these things as dollar stores. We don't have much trouble with cups, glasses and plates because we have chosen plastic ones and we pack them in pretty tightly. We started off with some glass wine glasses but found they can't take much of a bump. Heavier things like pots are better off as low as possible, such as under the sink, and they can be nested. We stow trailer gear like jack stands, water containers, hoses etc under the seats and have not had any problems. We did try some rubber like shelf liner but found it more trouble than it was worth. It tends to get scrunched up. We have our bedding in a collapsible tote which can be put under the table while travelling, then folded up at night so that it doesn't take any space. We bought a 36 quart cooler this summer to supplement the Dometic fridge and put it in the aisle near the axle, and it doesn't move very much when we are moving. We have a removable shelf unit in the wardrobe that carries clothes and beauty and shaving kits. The shelf unit is secured in place with a nylon strap which goes around the bar in the wardrobe. Doesn't move too much.

We use the rubbery shelf liner stuff in the utensil and food cabinets, and keep it in place with double-sticky tape. And, we looked for stuff that would nest and/or stack snugly.

Re: How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
I travel full time with mine and often on badly washboarded roads. All the suggestions listed previously are usefull ways of keeping stuff in place. One thing not mentioned was to buy some lengths of the foam rods kids play with in the pool. Cut to lengths to place between stuff in the fridge or anywhere to keep things from moving. I place heavy items on the floor so they have no where to fall to. Had trouble with stuff hanging in the wardrobe forcing the door open. Placed a piece of wood across the opening, wedged between the walls to stop this.
I have had to adjust some of the cabinet catches to make them hold tighter.
Bottom line: keep weight low and closets well stuffed, and slow down on rough roads.

Re: How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
Another suggestion or idea is to use empty wine bags...the foil ones.
Once you finish the wine (No comment Glenn) rinse the bags well and then you can inflate them to the pressure you need which. The bags are plyable and easy to fit into tight spaces in and around glasses, etc.

Wine comes in bags in Canada? Is that where Baglo got his name?

Re: How to stop things moving in overhead shelves when travelling
Hi: Eric T... We buy wine in 16 Litre boxes. House Red or White. $79.95 ea. Each box is lined with a bag that collapses with use but lets no air in thru the pour spout. That way I can tell if my wife's in "The Bag". Alf

Hi: JerryCpei... I like Aces idea!!! You could also use cut to length sections of pipe wrap from the building supply store. I really like Tammys idea cause drinking wine is good for you!!! Alf
