I need one of these foot thingys!

I saw this cool mat that slips over your step so you can scrape the dirt off your feet before entering the rig. The step on our Casita is 8" x 24" (approx), but I wonder what size step the 2017 21' Escape uses?

Hi: reddog2673... Can't really say for sure as we don't have an Escape 21. I would say that it's a big step up from a Casita though, but that depends if your instep or outta step. Alf

My notes from when I took a bazillion measurements of the display model of the 2017 21 footer states the step is 19.75" by 8"

Wow! I can't believe it is smaller than the Casita!

Thanks! I will wait before making the purchase.

To expand on Glenn's comment: Escape sells these step covers. We bought ours from them when we picked up our trailer.

Instead of step covers, we have two outdoor mats, one inside and one outside, that help get the mud off. Of course, we could use step covers also. The mats are sold at RV places but any outdoor mats will do.

We were advised the drainage holes in the step would wreak havoc on our dogs' claws, that the cover is a must for their benefit. (We didn't use one on the Casita. C'est la vie.) So far, it has worked okay.

OK. The one we currently have on our Casita step is a thick cloth mat that helps and we use an Astro turf mat on the ground. But this product that goes over the step also has AstroTurf. That is what attracted me to it. I will check with ETI to see if they carry the one with AstroTurf.

I too had a bad experience with one of our dogs getting their nail stuck inside one of the step holes, very painful nail removal. I tried one of the step covers with the spring attachment and it did not look right. I finally found some self stick stair pads to use but the dog now skips the step as she remembers the experience....another option was removing the step and making the holes smaller, just enough to allow drainage.

That is a real concern for dogs. Seen quite a few people saying that they had such problems. You dog owners, please try to keep your dogs' nails cut. That is not easy to do. Some vets will do it. You may be able to have a vet do it for you if you have too much trouble.

Yeah, a friend of mine had something similar happen to her JRT with her motorhome step. Hers are now covered.

Heck, I get the vet to trim Spike's claws! He turns into a limp puddle at the vet so they can handle him to do it. But, at home - forget about it! I can't imagine trying to trim some of those thick dog nails. Lots of strength needed to do that, I'd imagine.

Got an indoor/outdoor carpet runner, trimmed pieces to fit the steps. Then cut slits that line up with the step holes and strapped it down with plastic tie-wraps.

Cost is about $4 per step with enough spare material for 3 more sets.

This is what we do too. A courser one outside to knock off grit, leaves and the such, and a softer one inside to stow shoes on, and for that final wipe. We do not remove footwear inside unless mucky.

I had never even considered the effect of the holes in the step on dogs. Fortunately for Jasper, he gets enough running time in that his nails stay shortish from natural wear. plus, he is outside most of the day. A few times I have used the Dremmel tool on them, I refuse to use those crude cutters.

Red Dog, We got the one from ETI also, and it is a lightweight gray AstroTurf. Your picture looks a little thicker. That 22" though is too wide, as the step is as Laura says, 19 3/4" wide.

i never thought about the dogs claws we keep them pretty short but now i guess i need a cover? I'm also guessing that the 17 steps are the same as the other trailers.

Saves both me and the dog.
