IKEA Luroy bed slat hack and Jonaxel drawers for closet

Hi. Just wanted to share a couple of things we did to our 19 that others might find helpful.

To raise the mattress for ventilation, we used IKEA’s Luroy bed slats plus 3 or 4 bags of 1 in. wooden cubes and double sided tapes both bought from Dollar Tree and attached 2 cubes on each end of the slats to raise them up. It has so far held up well.

For the closet, we bought the following Jonaxel drawer organizer from IKEA, which fits almost perfectly (we have the optional drawer below the closet). To get it to sit flushed to one side of the closet, we had to use a half-inch strip of rubber we cut off from our bathroom floor mat. To prevent the drawers from sliding out during travel, we use a bungee cord across them.

We have so far been happy with these simple solutions.

It's always nice to see folks doing mods to make their Escape their own.

I must have used a different model of IKEA bed slats when I did that mod in my 19 several years ago. Instead of having to raise it for ventilation I cut down the under lying frame about an 1". Whatever works.

We were looking for the slats you got but IKEA no longer seem to carry it. So we went with the next best solution.

That explains the difference. I was wondering.

Well, glad there was an alternative, ventilation is good.

The Lonset slats were discontinued but are now being brought back as a new item. The Ikea stores in Fl. are currently restocking then. I just bought a set this week.

Did you cut the slats to maintain access to storage underneath.

Also any tips on wrestling with the mattress?

Don't cut the slats.

I managed to do what I had to do under that area without lifting the mattress up and trying to then open the lid and then deal with whatever was in there. Too heavy and awkward for me.

IKEA used to have three different quality levels of bed slats. Leirsund the best, Lonset mid-grade and Luroy basic. Then they discontinued, and it sounds like Lonset is coming back?

We used Lonset in our 17A and the Full set was a little too wide. We had to trim down each slat on both ends since the slat design is a curve like a leaf spring, plus extra trimming to fit the bed curve. It was a lot of work to assemble.

In the 21 we just use Hypervent mesh material for the air gap. IKEA slats supposedly add a little spring too but I could never tell the difference. The nice thing with Hypervent is you can line the sides with it too, where I find that a lot of condensation appears during cold weather sleeping. Also Hypervent is a lot less weight. I thought the IKEA slats were esthetically much nicer though.

Looks nice! Did you fasten the organizer to the closet wall? If so, what did you use?
