Looking for a new surge protector

My TRC Surge Guard 44260 went belly up after four years. I am going to replace it, but before I do, I thought I would check with you kind folks to see what you use?

Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C

I like not having to worry about it walking off, and it's just there, no worries.

We have the Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C on our 2018 trailer . Not impressed with it .
If it goes out of calibration again or fails , it will be removed and not replaced .

Sorry that your experience with the PI unit isn't so great. What would you replace it with? We had the same PI unit in our Casita for about 8 years with zero issues, it worked like a charm, so I'm fine recommending it . I'm also happy it's in our 2018 21'.

The Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X is what we bought. Have used it maybe 5 times, so cannot give a long term review. We did not want the Escape built in surge protector, we plan to mainly boondock and use a 3 kw genset in summer heat. The Mexican travel forums recommended this portable surge protector...

We bought ours from United RV and saved about $20 over Amazon. Delivery was free and quite fast.

Not that I know one company from another, but like the others here I have Progressive Industries 30A hardwired unit. After some initial chatter, it was replaced in 2014 and has worked fine since. I like the hardwired but if you want to save the work, they have portables like you currently have. Their EMS-PT30X https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-I...protector&th=1 is top of the line but pricey, might find a lock for it if you go this route. They have a couple cheaper models, you'd have to compare and see which sounds good to you.

I found their tech support easy to work with, no qualms sending me the part I needed.

Yep, you unplug it and just use the cable.

Maybe it does have one, but this would certainly work.

I’ll offer another thumbs up for the hardwired Progressive Industries unit. We’ve used ours a lot with zero problems, and if it does ever self sacrifice to save the rest of the trailer, I’m happy to know that it has lifetime warranty replacement, plus I’ve only heard good things about their customer service.

On the other hand, we also had excellent performance from a Samlex unit that ETI installed in our previous trailer, so would be happy with another one of those too.

We had the Escape installed Progressive Industries hardwired version and had an issue with it when it shorted inside the box. As several people mentioned, it comes with a lifetime warranty and when I called Progressive and sent them pics, they shipped it to us to a US address with no issues whatsoever. It wasn't difficult to replace, just a little awkward in spots and we were up and running again. Customer service from Progressive was very good.

my only complaint with the built in one on my 2014 is that it has to be bypassed at home where there is no good ground on the outlet I use to power the trailer when its parked.

How is that a complaint about the EMS? It is doing its job protecting your trailer (and you) from a potentially dangerous electrical connection.

Well, it has Manual Mode bypass, aka go out in the rain and unplug it.
