Is the new Maxfan Deluxe available on the Escape 21 ?

The MaxxFan on an Escape has always been what they now call a "MaxxFan Deluxe" (with the folding hood). That was the original style of MaxxFan; they only more recently started to offer the cheaper version that can't be left open when it is raining (now called the Maxxfan Plus), and an even more basic version just called the MaxxFan. If Airxcel is trying to cause confusion, they succeeding.

So the standard equipment that comes with a Escape is now called the MaxxFan Deluxe (presumably model 5100K), and the optional models are different versions, still of the MaxxFan Deluxe (with smoked cover and/or electric opening).

Is it possible the Max fan could create negative air pressure in the escape, sucking the cold air out of the fridge? Our new Escape is still with the Dometic repairman. Dometic is having him run different tests to pinpoint the cause for our inadequate temperatures. I wonder if we should run that test also? Shouldn't the seals on the refrigerator door keep this from happening?

Hi: GCS... One of the reasons I liked the Escape line was the standard equipped MaxxFan/w integral rain hood. Variable speed with in/out and rain proof if left open. Don't ask how I know!!! I added one to my '77 Boler. Alf

Yes, if the door is mechanically latched. No, if only the magnetic seal is used. Negative pressure in the trailer would be lower pressure than in the fridge and it's possible with enough of a differential that it could ~push~ the door and allow leakage. In reality I haven't found our trailer is air tight enough to create that situation.

This is something that came up a while back on the RML fridge, although I seem to recall it happened just driving down the road, didn't even need the fan to pull out the cold.

Someone tried re-insulating the door, as well as folks plugging a hole on the bottom of the door that cold air flowed out from. I remember Reace suggesting we tape the hole. Didn't look at the RMD to see if the "leak" is still there.

Turn on the fan and try the candle flame test if you wish.

You all have me thinking about forgoing the fridge and strapping in a Yetti :-) don't need the headache.

Easiest way to create negative pressure in the trailer and suck the cold air out of the fridge is to travel with windows cracked or the MaxxFan open. Close it up and the fridge stays much cooler.

I have thought about it! Our son's family tent camps with a Yeti. I think it freezes water!
40 years ago I was searching the classifieds for our first (used) camper, and my first question was did it have a refrigerator instead of an ice box. Since then we have only used an ice chest for tent camping and keeping drinks cold. The drive into town just for expensive ice can be a hassle! Hope we get the refrigerator fixed soon! We have some mods we would like to do on our new escape before we leave for our summer camping trip.

Maybe the changes being made now will address the problem. Hope so anyway. I have gone on other sites and read their mail but so far Escape seems to be the only one having this problem. Airstream has a whole lot of other problems but so far their fridge still works and they are using the same unit smh. Has to be something simple I'm hoping because I really like the trailer.

Google Dometic RMD 8555 problem and you'll see Escape isn't the only manufacturer having problems with this refrigerator or any particular refrigerator. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only Escape owner who's never had problems with the single door Dometic fridge. But then again, I know how to pack it and I think most people don't.

I think that high ambient temperatures and/or long travel times are the primary contributing factors to the poor Dometic refer performance. At least that's my inference from all the postings.

This would be true in my case. Fridge warms up while traveling, doesn't even have to be hot, but it was worse when it is. On the single door fridge recovery time was very slow, so slow it was still not back down by travel time the next day. By the 3rd day of travel we had to buy a cooler for the perishables.

The 2 door recovery time is satisfactory, at least that's our experience traveling for 3 months with it.

When it's hot we've been using a cooler for drinks, helps enough to make things manageable.

Not acceptable imo. This could influence my decision if no fix is found.
