Speaking of embarrassing. On my last day of the cycle (I was cycling with 2 of my kids who cycled right across the country), we arrive on the outskirts of St. Johns NL, and I decide to stop at Canadian Tire to buy a duffle bag to put my paniers in for the flight home. I pull up to the front door of Canadian Tire and am about to get off the bike, but I was too slow unclipping my left foot, so over I go. There were some construction guys doing some work and watched me go over. They gave me the look that said "What is this old guy even doing riding a bike" Very embarrassing indeed. Maybe it is NL?

I must say though I loved St. Johns. Lots of character!!

Always carry a NOCO Genius Boost. Has saved me and others several times. I have the GB40 but you would likely need a larger model like the GB50 or GB70 to start a big diesel. Not cheap, but nothing good is.

yeah, diesels need some beefy jumper cables too. typical junk sold at hte big box chain auto stores won't cut it. I wish I had the set my friend made from some old arc welding cable, heh. they weighed like 30 lbs.

What is NFLD?

Along with BC, YK and NWT, some of the best camping and sight-seeing in NA.

Agree...it really is a beautiful province, particularly the citizens of NL, who are amongst the friendliest and most accommodating people I have encountered on this planet.

Newfoundland.
I think that is were the Vikings discovered North America.
And a few hundred years later some guy named Columbus showed up.
Correct me if I am wrong, must be my cold Scandinavian blood playing tricks on me.

Allan, you are absolutely correct. There is a national park commemorating the "discovery" of NA by the Vikings in the late 10th century.

Here is a link to the national park: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/lhn-nhs/nl/meadows

New trim instead of wall covering.

Hi: All... I'm not changing the wall covering but changing out the trim for real oak. Using door casing for baseboards and a new outside corner with a door stop piece for under the lower cubbie doors on the fridge side. Satin finish clear Varathane comes the closest.
Went to buy new cones for the table legs but no go... and no new screws either. Seems #12X 3/4" Robertson wood screws are an odd size, but they all cleaned up like new. Alf

Alf-

The trailer batteries drained your Ram's battery while the trailer was connected to the truck? For some reason I didn't think that could happen. That's a nice truck, though; I enjoyed riding in it when you were down here back in the spring.

Were you in Newfoundland in time to see the icebergs go by? I'd like to go there just to witness that spectacle.

indeed, it shouldn't happen, when you shut off the truck, an isolator relay in the truck should shut off the power to the 7-blade trailer connector.

about the only time I've seen this happen is with amateur wiring jobs where they left the relay out and wired directly to the truck battery

I have posted this several times before but the Ram's 7 plug is active all the time, that is the reason for several of my modifications....You have to disconnect. Also there is no full spare, that will be the next issue....

hmmm. I do believe I'd find the wire that feeds the RV connector its 12V power, and put a 40A or 50A automotive relay in the circuit, with the relay's coil triggered by an ignition switched power source.

When I was 14 (in 1970) I bought a Schwinn Continental 10-speed bicycle. I was the first and probably only kid in my farming community to have a ten-speed bike. It had pedals with toe straps. I'd never seen these before, so I didn't know to keep the straps loose. I pulled up to the first intersection and slowly fell over. Farmers drove by in their pickups and looked at me, surely thinking, "that boy ain't right", decades before "King of the Hill."

I still have that bicycle.

When I was 17, back in 1972, a buddy and I cycled from Vancouver to Montreal, living on $2.00 each. It was a fantastic experience, one that i told my kids about many times. I still have that 10 speed Gitane bike, though it hasn't moved much since. Moved onto better bikes since then, but still can't get it in me to get rid of that old Gitane.

My bike ride back then I guess inspired my kids to cycle across Canada. So when they asked me if I would like to join them in Montreal and cycle to St. Johns, what could I say... Still doesn't excuse my stupidity in not getting my foot out in time. I guess I am indeed older but not necessarily wiser. But I sure did enjoy the latest bike trip, and to be invited by my kids was extra special. This time I had more than $2.00 a day to live on, but my kids were living on a budget, so we all cycled accordingly, camping in little one man tents and cooking our own food on our tiny stoves. A fantastic experience!!

How long a ferry ride was that and what did you have on inside the trailer to draw it down other than the batteries?
