Power Step Running Boards

I was kind of enjoying the ideas and comments being tossed around in the thread asking about installing a power-deployed entry step. Sad the OP asked to have it closed, but that's his prerogative. Still, it seems like some mechanism similar to those being used with the increasingly more popular power step running boards for pickup trucks (see example link below), cut down to camper door size, would add a serious "cool factor" regardless of whether it was actually needed or helpful (just don't look at the price!). Now, let him/her who has never made a "just for the cool factor" modification to their trailer cast the first stone!

I think you hit the nail on the head, Dale. I read the entire thread and only found one post that might have been less than helpful (in my opinion, I will add). I got the impression that his feelings were hurt because there wasn't a universal proclamation that it "was a way cool idea." I really didn't perceive anyone was posting "nasty" responses.

I wasn't aware that any forum member could request that a thread be closed just because they didn't like it.

Well, you can request anything. It doesn't necessarily mean your request will be granted!

I was thinking of something like Ford's automatic rear hatch release, wave your foot underneath and the steps deploy.

Sad this happened. I sure got lots of help from all you guys when we ordered our Escape. And I still do love this forum, it's advice and help, its goofiness and camaraderie.
It would not have taken much to reply to the other thread, but wisdom kicked in...
Just want to say a Thank You here to all of you!!!

I would like a system where I could just wave my hands and the trailer would be all set up and I'd be good to go.

Dale, you know I can't cast any stones - you've seen what I have done to my trailer and I'm not finished yet.

Back to the thread about the power step. I can understand why the OP quit the website. Y'all were kinda rough on him. All he wanted was some info - not a critique of his idea. And yes, y'all may not have meant it that way but that is the way it came across to him.

I too thought all responses to the query were fair and friendly. Maurice Switzer was right.

Thank you. I will be requesting that my account be deleted as well - I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

And, it's really embarrassing when you can't help but post on a thread after stomping out of the room.
It's OK. Really.

Hey Tom (tdf-texas), I'm high-jacking my own thread to tell you this, but I contacted Camco about missing the second spring that was supposed to come with my WH-200 screen (thank you again for pointing that out at GE&H). I got an immediate apology, and in 3 days, I received not one but two new springs in the mail along with a thank you note from them to me for being a loyal customer. Seems like I'm the one who should be thanking them for their quick and courteous response when they really didn't have to. I hope you and yours are doing well....

My comment was in jest (somewhat). Otherwise, there would be no joy on completion of the camp set-up and "nesting." Where would the "Ah..." moment be when one is finally settled and is relaxing in a camp chair? I do enjoy all the futzing around getting set up...it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I think it's just human nature and comes with the territory on most forums (some way worse than others - most truck forum threads quickly evolve into some troll bashing the OP for their taste in trucks). I recall another recent thread on this forum where a future Escape owner OP expressed an idea and simply asked for a cabinet measurement to see if their idea was possible. I recall the first couple dozen responses were alternative suggestions and critiques, all intended to be helpful from personal experience, before someone finally provided the OP with what they had asked for - a simple measurement. Probably frustrating for the OP, but all-in-all, I found every post to be informative in one way or another. In fact, one often learns as much about the nature and personality of the people posting than the subject mater of the post itself. In the end, we're all family (the Escape Forum family), and it's all good. Donna D, please do NOT delete my account (I know you can't, anyway)! I enjoy visiting with my Escape family...

You'd be surprised at what I can do When it comes down to text-based communication, often intent is lost. Sorry group, but few are what I would call "great communicators." It's hard, takes time too. Sooo, just remember... if you can't be kind... be quiet.

I have my first travel trailer on order and am transiting from tents and I learned several things from the previous thread. I ordered the high lift option so I am somewhat concerned about the single step vs. double vs. a Stromberg Carlson type adjustable stool.
My first impression was that it was an interesting idea until Jim and Brian mentioned the difference in need between motorhome steps and trailer steps and the complications involved with wiring them. I followed earlier threads about replacing the step with a double system and the idea of an electric step system was something I hadn't though of. Also I didn't know that you could easily open and close the single step with your foot. To me the thread was valuable.
People need to understand that a forum like this is to share information and they have no control over what kind of information others will share. I assume no one offered step by step instructions because no one has added electric steps to an Escape trailer yet. Still the OP got valuable advice, information and opinions regardless of whether it was the information he/she wanted. I also got some valuable information from the answers to the original post.
