It will leave a little residue which needs to be wiped off once in a while.

Do you wrap it around the electric cord where it enters the trailer?

I'm assuming they close the access door and apply it around the small sliding opening where the cord comes out.

Yes, with the door closed and little door piece pulled down, not much left to cover. Then just put the caulk over remaining area, which is kind of a little square and a hook on the square. I don't actually wrap it around the cord all of the way. I use a couple of thicknesses of caulk put together. Have to check it once in a while in case of knocking into it or maybe too much wind or whatever.
