Replace the flying saucer?

I have one of the original "flying saucer" tv antennas. It is pretty terrible. I am sitting in Fort Pickens across from Pensacola and am not receiving anything reliably. I wished I had gotten the King Jack but at the time I was worried about overall height. The saucer is mounted on the side just in front of the closet. Has anyone had success replacing one of these with a directional that worked out well? I am not interested in mounting something on a mast. I want to pull in,.turn it on, and point if necessary. Would like it to go where the current antenna is located if possible.

Suggestions?

Hi: skiman... I've got a King Jack. Worked wonderful, when it worked. Now I buy DVD's. If I wanted to camp and watch TV I've got 2 remotes. One for the fireplace and one for the big screen. Alf

Carl, the mast on my original Jack Antenna broke due to an accidental impact and I replaced it with a new Jack antenna. It had worked well previously, but now it works far better. The reason is, the original one was wired poorly by Escape. None of the coaxial connections was terminated properly - they used those ends you twist on with your fingers, instead of the crimped connectors. I would recommend the Jack, provided it's wired properly. Your only issue in placement would be, the ceiling right under it must be accessible in order to point it. in such a case, the King OmniPro has good reviews, and might be more suitable, since it doesn't require pointing, or access to the ceiling right under it. If you absolutely have to mount on the side instead of the roof, I don't think the King products will work.

Thanks, Robert. I’m in the process of preparing for Lithium battery upgrade next spring and going through the trailer slowly reworking any wiring issues. I had never looked at the King J wiring to date, but it is on the list now. Twist on coaxial connectors are a no go for me.

The transmitters for the commercial broadcast TV stations in Mobile and Pensacola are all located on a hill between the two cities, so about 30 miles away from you, I guess. Just FYI. I think the directional King Jack works very well; I've used them on my trailer and at home.
