RMD 8555 refrigerator doors too blahhhh

We are not big fans of the stainless look panels used on the curved refrigerator doors of our 6.7 Dometic refrigerator. Looking for suggestions on some type of decorative covers to replace these. No, magnets will not stick to it. How do you remove the black plastic trim on the edges to put something else up? Thanks for all suggestions in advance.

You could turn a photo into a peel and stick- attach to fridge.

This is interesting, as I am considering removing the wood panel on mine and using a stainless steel one to match the other SS components I have built into my trailer.

It is easy to remove the existing panel and replace it with whatever you like, the skies the limit as long as it is the right thickness. Glue a blown up photo onto a thin ply backing, paint a mural, make a collage, go crazy...

But, you could make your own panel out of whatever you want. You could remove the existing one and wallpaper it if you want.

He actually sprayed his with magnetic paint! You could try the magnet paint on yours I suppose, or make new panels and paint them.

It's not quite as straightforward with the RMD 8555 fridges, because the front panel wraps around the edges too. Whatever you decide to use it has to wrap around the edges about an inch and a half.

Yeah, but, yours isn't the RMD 8555. As Robert points out, it's a little different with the curvature and edge.

I remember Jon put a poster on his 17... but that wasn't the RMD 8555, either.

I am interested in this "upgrade," although my upholstery fabric is already so busy, I don't want to add to the visual clutter. I wonder if it would work to use the same formica as on our cabinets and dinette table. The gray plastic definitely looks out of place, IMHO.

I thought about using the formica ,too, Mary. I don't think it will bend enough at the edges, though.

Ah, never realized that. Presents a whole new problem. Maybe the stock panel is not so bad after all.

I had one of my photographs printed as a poster the size of the door panel, had them add a matt laminate to protect it. PosterBrain did it fairly inexpensively. I dry mounted the photograph on 1/8" foam core & replaced the stock panel. This was for a flat door on an RM2510, but if the space is thick enough for it to slide in, the foam core will form to the bend.

On Edit - Just saw Robert's post about the wrap, so foam core might not work. I do know you can have photos printed on vinyl; maybe that is a possibility?

I’m not familiar with the lip or edge edge bend on our 8555. Iwhen I bought a sheet of Formica it came rolled up in a box about 16 inches square and 4 feet tall. So it will bend as a sheet pretty well and probably would stick to the current panel with the right adhesive. While I like the look of the stock cover, I can understand others might not. The idea of a poster, photo, chalkboard or other treatment might be a good way to go. The right magnets on the backside might allow for magnets to be used on the front side.

No doubt the one with the horse in the background will do just fine!


Perhaps there would be just enough room to adhere something to the trim at the top of the lower door. Could at least do that with the freezer door.

I haven't been able to find a poster I really liked to put on the fridge door. I didn't want to paint the door either. So, I found these on the Amazon and thought I would give it a try. They are removable if and when I get tired of them. They breakup the stainless look which was my goal. Kinda reminds me of the dorm fridge back in the 60s.
