Rug cover on outdoor step

My dog does not like the steps (we have a double step) into our Escape 19. We think it has to do with the holes in the steps and our dog’s vision. She has not problems with steps at our home. We’re considering buying RV rug step covers. Does anyone have experience using these? What brand did you buy? Do you have to take it off before folding up the step for travel?

I bought mine from ETI. Don't know the brand. I installed it probably 10 years ago. Never take it off for any reason. Works well. Keeps a dog's nails from going through the holes and getting caught mid-stride.
Mine looks just like "Camco step cover" on Amazon.

I put one on my 19’s step to protect my dog’s toenails, which I bought from Escape (don’t remember the brand), and it worked well. At least until the dog decided to chew it up! Hopefully your dog behaves better!! I think once you put it on, it can stay there.

Rug

I bought one from Walmart, don’t remember the brand. The package said to remove when traveling. It is held on with spring hooks.

I put one on my Aliner, and it worked just fine. No dog, but kept the dirt and mud out of the living space.

Wore it out, then got a piece of tough door mat material with a fake grass surface (I think you know what I'm talking about) cut it to shape and pop riveted it to the step. It was still working just fine when I sold the Aliner. Will be doing the same thing with the Escape step.

Got my first one from ETI with spring hooks and it lasted four years ot more. Got one a year or so ago on Amazon and noticed one of the spring hooks came off. Used zip ties and then a couple days ago noticed the whole rug missing. Oh well, at $10 a pop(Camco on Amazon) no big deal and do prefer it over the bare metal step.

I covered our holes with anti skid tape. Serves both us and the Granddog just fine.

Those spring-hooks don't look all that secure, but mine is still attached after years. Never have removed it for any reason.

We have two of these Camco 42925-A Gray 18 Inch 42925 18" Rv Step Rug-Grey.

One for each step on our 2020 Escape 19 with dual steps. They fit well and can be left on when closing the steps.

I bought the cover offered by ETI. When i installed the carpet runner in the trailer I cut a piece to fit the step and attached it with the springs.

That type of indoor carpet doesn't absorb water like a sponge and get all nasty?

I bought one in brown (to match dirt!) that has a tall nape. I also have a matching door mat that sits outside. I'm not sure a dog would like to walk on it, it's pretty 'scritchy' which is what I wanted to remove dirt, mud, pine needles off the bottoms of my shoes. After I wrapped it around the step, it's fastened with 3-4 zip ties.

Do you have a name or link for that rug you pictured Donna? That looks like what I want too.

It's like this one. BUT, I know I didn't pay nearly this much for it at Camping World. However, that was nearly seven years ago: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012ZZE0VC...ogi&th=1&psc=1

Even if I did pay that much, it would work out to about 4 bucks per year of use. And I expect to get many more years out of mine. It really looks good after seven years....

It's a few dollars cheaper on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/p/1749744471

oooh it's even cheaper here: https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Safet...-p/04-4653.htm

Be sure to measure your step width and pay attention to S&H. Amazon may be the better deal if you have Prime.
