Simple Mods for our 21C (and a few tips from others)

I'm trying to make sure that as many of my portable appliances as practical run on 12V. Here are some of the 12Vdc appliances I plan to get:

• Vacuum cleaner
• Dehumidifier
• Immersion blender
• HEPA air purifier

Only AC. We have a small whisk broom and dust pan stored in crate storage under the bed when AC is not available. The recharged hand vacuums don't seem to last very long so we did not go that route.


Some folks have told us that even when then stay on BLM land they usually come back for a KOA over night after a week or two to do laundry and clean up. That would be a good time to plug in with the vacuum.


On a different note, I am amazed at the number of people who did not get the full height cabinet at the drawer stack on a 21C. We thought that was the best option we chose -- and we have a counter extension that folds out over our trash can at the foot of the bed. The bracket to that fold out extension is visible in the photo of the trash can posted above. That extension counter is right next to the outlets and does not get in the way. We get much more storage space (for all my stuff) and do not lose much of the counter space that would be there without the cabinet. I linked to a photo of the cabinet with Elfa baskets in another post, but will put it here too.

We had 12 volt vacuums for years on boats and RVs. Never felt that they were very good. We now have the smaller Dyson for the trailer, and like our larger one in the house, does an excellent job. It lasts enough for multiple cleanups.

Don't know why anyone would be surprised that some folks don't want a full height drawer stack. Look at the difference of opinions on types of things like windows and awnings. I'd fall over in shock if there was ever an item that everyone agreed was the best choice.

In 2019 we ordered a Black and Decker 20V MAX* Flex Cordless Stick Vacuum. We don't bother carrying the two 18" stick extensions. For a test it ran over 24 minutes before the battery died. It also sucks dirt as well as our 120v home vacuums. Plus the battery seems to last months on end when not used. I charge it perhaps once during our 3+ month winters in the southwest. We liked it so much we bought a second Black and Decker for our condo unit.

The condo has a Dyson and the battery seems to last less than 10 minutes and it does not have the suck the Black and Decker does. When I decide to vacuum the condo's halls and stairways I use our Black and Decker.

I'm a new owner so this may have already been widely discussed but I just purchased some magnetic vent covers from Lowe's, just over $8, and made some covers for the vent access points on our gas water heater to keep vermin out.

I just have to remember to remove them when I need hot water.

Did you have to make any adaptation for the cam locks to work on your escape?

Somebody warned us that a Camco Screen Door Cross Bar Handle would make our door screen kid-proof. They were right.

I don't understand how the Camco handle makes the door screen kid-proof.

wr9r - where did you get the gooseneck hose attachment? That looks like a better option for outdoor dishwashing than the long-coiled hose provided.
