Sliding Window Mod

While cleaning the windows in our 19 yesterday, I thought if I were to cut a couple of inches off the rubber gasket/travel stop on both the top and bottom, I could open the windows all the way. It doesn't look like it would hurt anything. Anyone tried this?

I had a look at this today. The gasket material pulls right out, and reinstalls quite easily. I'm actually not sure what purpose it serves, aside from acting as a stop to keep you from opening the window too wide (I can see the square corners of the window hitting the curved corner of the track could cause damage).

So, I'd *guess* it's safe to do. I intend to send an email to Reace to see if he agrees.

I'm also wondering about the possibility of switching the rear window around, so that the opening panel is at the front of the window instead of the rear. That would put in under the awning. We got our mattress wet this past week when we left the window open and a shower came through. But, I suspect this would not be a good change. All of the sliding windows have the opening portion at the rear. I suspect that is necessary to prevent rain from getting in when driving.

Hi: dbailey... The drain slots are on the bottom of the window frames. They can't drain if they were at the top. Alf

No way to take the panes out and swap them around? I notice the two front windows are installed such that one has the opening pane on the right, while the other has it on the left (both had the opening pane to the rear of the trailer). It could be those are different from the factory. I was hoping it was determined by how it was installed.

If the windows moved from one side of the trailer to the other side wouldn't the sliders be reversed.? And the drains still on the bottom.

Yes that would be the case but ........ when you are driving in the rain the slider would be exposed and rain would be driven into the trailer. Another point; the slider and the emergency window are different sizes ...... at least the are on my trailer.

Sorry, I forgot to post the response I got back from Reace about this...

He confirmed that the windows are designed to have the sliding portion to the rear of the trailer, regardless of which side of the trailer the window is on, to prevent rain being driven between the panes while driving. He said he couldn't comment on the possibility of trimming the rubber stop material, as doing so would not be to the manufacturers specification. Quoting him: "anything you do will be at your own risk."
