Snake Entrance Closed Off

As considerate as it was of ETI to provide a snake entrance into our trailer, after seeing a snake 5 feet from our door while overnight at the Antigonish, NS Walmart and another one at 10,000 feet in Colorado where I didn't think snakes were present, I've blocked off the gap underneath the screen door sweep with a simple wooden slat and some screws. This unfortunately eliminates the main door strut but we don't like the main door open only 90 degrees anyway. I'll need to figure something out besides a bungee cord for that later.

That whole set up has had me baffled. Why wouldn't they put the strut at the top of the door?? It would be out of the way of everything and not an open invitation to rodents and in this case snakes!!

We added these friction hinges from Lippert to allow the removal of the gas strut from our 2019 E19 as we did not care for the 90 degree opening limitation.

They work well and we are pleased with the addition. Our camping thus far has not included any heavy wind conditions so YMMV.

Talking

You can always try to old snake bats, but I hear they are not necessarily helpful to everyone.....

Snakes aren't a big problem up here in the NW.

For those of you who have gone with the friction hinges, how did you fasten them to the door frame? The factory hinges are riveted on with clean round head that do not look like blind rivets.

The friction hinges include the necessary mounting screws. After a careful read of the installation instructions your hinges should be mounted and ready within 10-15 minutes.

Lots of rattlers in North and South Dakota, they like cool places. Like under trailers or trucks. First hand experience.

Since the stock hinges are riveted into the frame, I'm assuming you left them in place?

Yes the originals are left in place. The friction hinges are installed between the existing hinges as in this video: https://youtu.be/_fwZbPu-CIU

I doubt if the framing around the door at the top is adequate for the possible wind force against the door.

Link not working

In e link for the friction hinges is not working. Can someone who has it please repost it? I’d love to add these hinges to my 21E as I really hate that the door only opens part way. Thank you! Happy travels!
