Question Solar security?

Hi!
Happy BC Day to all you BC Canadian campers!
I didn’t know where to put this question, so if there’s a better place please let me know.
With the “plug and play” solar suitcases, what prevents them from being stolen ? Do you have to be on site while they are charging the batteries?

Just wondering...

We have a Go Power suitcase solar suitcase . We bought before we installed our solar on the roof but still have, just in case . We bought a heavy long 15 ft cable lock and lock the panel to the trailer . Can also lock other items you don’t want to walk away . Pat

I have a Renogy solar suitcase and I think you need to consider where you are camping. If you are in the boondocks with nobody around I’m not sure I would leave it out and leave. If I was camping with a lot of families around I think I would feel safer leaving it out

Most Thefts Are Opportunity Thefts

I went to Lowes and made a simple, but decent 20' cable lock to prevent opportunity theft of our portable. I have a cable cutter that could cut that cable in 1 second, but most thefts are opportunity theft and have never seen a reason to carry a cable cutter when camping.

Enjoy,

Perry

I have never actually worried about it much at all, especially in campgrounds where you are surrounded by like minded fun seekers. If needed when boondocking, I do mostly use it when someone is still around the area of the trailer.

I did have a portable panel stolen last year, but that is when someone broke into my trailer being stored and stole all the easy to take and use stuff. I hope they were confused by my rewiring the solar to 36V and have an MPPT controller to handle it.

On rare occasions I use a metal ground screw and chain the panel to the handle.
