Stove Vent Flap
My stove vent flap broke and came out. When I looked up the replacement part I could see it has lil cheap plastic tabs that go into holes at the top of the vent cover. These are what broke and will keep breaking, so I did a permanent cheap fix.
Ace had a 5pack of 1.5mm brass rods for $2 that were perfect for this repair. I JB Welded the brass rod across the top of the vent flap and let cure. (see pic) Painted the flap with Krylon and after dry trimmed the new brass tabs to correct length and reinserted the flap into the vent cover. Worked like new on trip this week and no more plastic tabs to break off.

Good fix, Greg! Our tabs broke after 18 months as well. I can’t believe how flimsy the original tabs are. I haven’t fixed ours yet, but may now with your solution.

We had the same tab breakage. Temporary fix was to take a piece of wire, heat it, then melt it into the flap. This thread has reminded me to do a permanent repair (it's been a year!)
Think I'll borrow your solution, Greg. Thanks.

I'm going to try that fix (modified) as a repair the next time one of the little tabs on the door for the sewer hose carrier breaks...

JB Weld!
Almost as useful as baling wire and duct tape. And this is an excellent application. Mine is working fine for the moment, but good to know there's a relatively simple fix available. Thanks for sharing.

Innovative fix Greg. I have a different problem, my vent flap broke and went AWOL. Could you provide a link to the replacement please? I have a 2015 17B so I assume Escape used the same part on all 2015's. Thanks!

I know this thread is a little old. But my flap flew off somewhere and since I was still under the Escape warranty they sent me one no charge. I find that those little latches are kinda loose so they don't really secure it very tight. I currently have a piece of tape holding it so I do like your solution Greg. I was considering a piece of foam that could slide up in there to hold it, but I'm afraid it would blow out on the freeway.

I have yet to fix my missing flap. I cut a small diameter pool noodle the same width as the vent. Works great and adds a bit of insulation to the vent. No worries about it flying out.

I can report that the flap repair has been on since September and through multiple trips. It has worked perfectly with no signs that there will be any future problems. Replacing those plastic tabs with the brass rod sure seems to be a good long term solution.

Those little tabs keep the flap closed otherwise it can flap and then you have it missing.

To flap or not to flap
That is the question.
Sometimes I forget to un flap my flap,
sometimes I forget to re-flap it.
We flap because it is there.
We came, we saw, we flapped.
If I had a nickel for every time I used my flap
I would be a flapping rich flapper.
But frankly, my dear, mostly,
I don’t give a flap.

Good explanation Myron. It’s raining and 35F here so today I’m doing some straightening up of my “library”. Here are three of several family questions that someone gave me.
1. You think a woman who is “out of your league” bowls on a different night
2. You have to go outside to get something from the fridge.
3. The Blue Book value on your truck goes up and down depending on how much gas is in it.
Smile, it will be spring soon.

Anyway you slice it the flap is crap.
The old one slowly fell apart. I replaced it with the newer streamlined one. Looks real pretty. Then I went to open it. Oh yah, I know what that's going to lead to. The tabs are so hard to move that probably sooner than later I'm going to snap them off. When that happens I'll figure out a way to control the flap from inside and end the whole nonsense of having to exit and to remember to flap and unflap.

If you're tired of replacing the plastic stove vent because of breakage, consider this: https://store.airstream.com/product/...range-exhaust/

For some reason the picture of the product in the link would not show up on my iPad...so I found it elsewhere on the site.
But for the price I would want the range hood included as well.

For that price they'd have to throw in ten pounds of Kobe steaks.

One of my tabs broke off a year or so ago and I seem to recall Tammy telling me during orientation that Reace never bothers to secure the flap so that's been my modus operandi...I don't secure the flap and I don't worry about the broken tab.

I know it’s been mentioned before but don’t forget the SAM-1 range hood upgrade by Fabulous Operating Products. It puts a high quality slide damper inside as part of the package. The company seems to have ceased operation but for now you can still find them on eBay.
