Three simple mods

Here are some simple, easy-to-make mods:

• A small four-sided box to hold a Monster Bluetooth speaker. We can sit at the dinette on the opposite end or in the bed and play music [or podcasts or Overdrive audio books] from the ease and convenience of our mobile phone. Four pieces of red oak glued together, with a matching stain, topped off with a polyurethane finish. The box is held on with Velcro strips at the bed end or rests on the shelf at the dinette end. That little Monster speaker produces great sound when sitting on the front shelf, incidentally.
• The next is an extra access door to the curbside storage bench. We elected the "microwave ready" option in our 19. That left us with a spare cabinet door, once we installed our own microwave. So, rather than let it sit there, I increased the access to the forward portion of the bench. The door needed to be trimmed about a half-inch on all sides to avoid the table posts and fit within the space available. Finished with a clear polyurethane and reassembled with the same hardware & screws, all I had to purchase were the double roller catches, which I picked up at Ace Hardware. Cut the hole with a saber saw, trimmed the exposed edges with brown vinyl tape, and installed the door. Now we can get around the tall boots & shoes more easily to reach the other items further forward.
• The last mod is a top mount double coat hook installed in a corner, this one by the curbside front, although it could fit anywhere. The nickel plated hook is attached to a red oak escutcheon, which is then held to the cabinet with VHB tape. Very simple and holds more jackets, sweaters and bags. You can never have enough hooks! Another "no holes" project.

We have a 19 . If anyone has had to change out their water pump ( we did) It is awful to get to , laying on your side trying to reach in there . The opening door under bed is no help . I want to say Tammy sent us a new pump so we could replace it . I removed the board on side held with screws and cut it to a nice width , hinged it , put a finger hole in it , Now I can set on top of bed frame open hatch I made and work easier . We do not have Escape Bed , sold it and have Latex ,etc , we couldn"t sleep well even though it is a very nice mattress . Pat

Your mod makes a lot of sense, it's nice to have easy access to an important component. We still have the heavy mattress but propping it up and having easier access to that area would still be a bonus.

Before I even finished reading your post, I was going to ask how you wrestled the mattress out of the way; glad I read before I wrote. how thick a latex pad did you get for the bed?

Thanks Ron . 4 in of Latex . Mine is the soft . 3 in of medium density foam . Got the idea from Jim when he replaced his in his 19 . I have been told you want at least 3 in of latex . The memory foam doesn't work for me . Or the gel foam. Pat
