Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

Just a note to caution you about something I learned the hard way. In our 17B we place our toaster on top of the closet. The hot toater was touching the vinyl and stuck to it. On removal a piece of the vinyl (1" x 3") came off.
It won't happen again. I've fabricated and installed a 6" x 23" back splash (with laminate matching the the top). Fastened from the bottom (inside the closet) with 4 three inch screw (solid). It looks as if it was done in the factory....

Re: Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

A toaster? That's living in style.

While that vinyl is a fairly tough, light weight material, one does have to take care of cutting, or burning.

Jim,

Have you got a solution, or a gel, or something, for addressing tiny cuts?

I've only got a couple 1/8 inch nicks, from making the bed I think. Sharp finger nails....

Re: Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

Although I can't recommend a brand, if you do a Google search for vinyl repair kits you will find lots of them. I used a "no heat" one in the past & it worked pretty well.

Re: Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

baglo, I would first off recommend trimming your nails so no further damage is done.

Other than that I have no real recommendation, I have seen others use an adhesive (not sure what it was) and just laid a wee bit out on the seam to ensure it did not suffer any further damage, and could hardly be seen. I bet Reace would have a good recommendation.

Re: Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

we have a small "cross" melted on the vinyl (same location) from the screw head of the back of the toaster oven.
It had been away from the wall and "someone" (not me LOL) put stuff on the counter and pushed it back and turned it on by mistake... Not that noticeable--but hmm a piece of laminate might not be a bad idea......

Our toaster is a wire mess that you put over a fire.
Old school.

Re: Toaster stuck on vinyl skin.

Hi: All... Our toaster is old school also. Put in two slices push 'em down and when the smoke alarm goes off it's done . LoL Flea Mkt. special :!!!
Twisted wire marshmallow roasters do a good job for toasting on the fire too. Alf
