Umbra Flip Hook Rack
Has anyone cut and shortened an Umbra Flip wall mount hook rack to better fit a wall? The five hook natural is just to long for my available places. I was unsuccessful in a search of the archives.

We had ETI order ours. They were cut and installed in a matter of minutes during our orientation in Chilliwack.

There's a steel pin that the hooks hinge on running the full length. It'll cut, but best to know it's there.

I bought a 5-hook and Reace cut and installed them (3 +2) during the orientation. Perfect fit, perfect installation...

Thanks for the response...I suspected that there was a metal rod involved in the rack that could ruin a blade. For some reason Umbra doesn't make a natural 3 hook rack.

Cut mine with a 10" chop saw with an OLD trim blade. (Left me with a nice single hook too.)

Thanks Alan - those look like a great alternative to the Umbra for single placement. Gonna get us some!
We've used the Lee Valley Suction Hooks successfully on the outside of the trailer and in the bathroom. They're easy to put up and take down if you don't want a permanent placement, and they hold better than others we've tried.

We also had the Umbra hooks installed during orientation and love them. We have about 5 of the Lee Valley hooks that Glenn and Rosemary mentioned and they are awesome. We place one on the inside of the door fo to hang a small garbage bag on and the others go outside for jackets, keys etc. We have even used them to hold the clothesline rope when there are no trees handy!

We're using suction hooks similar to these on the bathroom walls and near the entry and they're working great ... even with all the condensation we're experiencing because of all the rain in the Pacific NorthWET as Donna would say ( Double-Locking Suction Hook). Wanted something temporary until we get home and really see how we need to outfit our trailer.

Did you ever cut your Umbra rack? If so, does the metal rod have to be secured in some way after being cut? Or do you just cut through it all and then it still works like it is supposed to?

Yes...I cut and installed my Umbra natural wood coat rack. I bought a 6 hook for $50 and sold the other half for $25 to another Escape owner. I used an industrial size band saw and it does have a metal rod. Cutting had no effect on the function of the rack.

Thanks for the quick reply! That info helps. We've got a 5 hook one and might want to cut it into a 3 and 2.

For those who have the Umbra hooks, what are you using to attach them to the walls?
