Under Chassis/Frame Storage

Has anyone considered or installed an under frame storage solution similar to this? Any other options, pros and cons?

John

Aside from the obvious clearance concerns it seems like a lot of money for 2 small storage bins.

It is but on a 5.0 behind the landing gear may be a suitable location. This one is too large anyway. Just looking at options. I am aware of CG (center of gravity) issues and I am looking for something to hold lightweight items like chocks and levelers.

This is where trade off's between trailer models happens. The front storage box on non 5.0 models is indispensable, IMHO. Everything and anything can go there including wet items as long as you drill some drain holes in the bottom. Most 5.0 owners carry a rear storage container in the rear hitch for that reason.

And a rear storage option may be best. Just thinking out loud about various options. And what better group to ask. [emoji4]

We have the bigger one that does not swing out on the back of the 5.0 and it works wonderful.

I wouldn't say most because most carry bicycles and few can carry both. All the stuff that would be put in a storage container goes into the bed of my truck.

I can see where those under carriage containers could be an option.

On our 5.0, we opened up the passengers side above the landing gear, that added lots of room to the compartment that's above the propane tanks. Others have opened both sides, I looked into it and found that I'd need to redo wiring and decided it wasn't worth the extra effort to open up the drivers side.

Yes I have design in my head but that is a next year project…not that we need the extra storage but I think it is an interesting project.

It will be behind the wheels of a 19 where the frame is higher, with bins accessible from each side. I was inspired by the picture below from a local trailer manufacturer.

We were at the local RV show last week and seeing all the under storage go me to thinking out it. On the 5.0 there is a couple of feet in front of the dump valves and behind the landing gear. I was just thinking that would be an ideal location for chocks, leveling blocks, etc. Easily accessible to the task. It all fits in the back of my truck now so I don’t need it. Just always thinking of improvements. [emoji4]

BTW, the RV show reminded me why we bought an Escape. The build quality was appalling! Even on the very expensive Class Bs. I even saw a plumbing drain pipe down straight through the middle of a thru and thru storage compartment. I couldn’t believe it. Too bad I didn’t think to take a picture.
