The 19’ used Escape that we just bought have a neat ad on that they did to it.
It was meant to carry wood. But since we do not bring wood wit us, we were wandering what we could use it for, as every thing we are going to store in it will get dirty.

That does look interesting, Michele. If it was enclosed so road grime never got at it, it could be used for lots of things, like a table, portable solar panel, chairs, etc.

Got me reminiscing about cleaning the wheel wells after driving through the Douglas Lake cattle ranch last year.
Those cow patties sure get hard after a time.

And then there was the time a buddy dragged his 17' Boler down to a forestry camp site. You could hear him coming from half a mile away as he dragged the overhanging rear end of the trailer over boulders that constituted the road.

I'd remove it.

Been there, Done that! - Ran into a real cattle drive (cowboys, horses & dogs, etc) on a drive along the La Sal loop near Moab. Took about 20 minutes to weave through the herd with the cowboys urging me on. Spent the next week including many trips to car washes trying to remove the incredible amount of cow flop from the undercarriage. Very glad the trailer was back in the campground!

You could use a thin hard plastic, using rivets and caulking, or even better, have a welding shop add a layer of thin steel to it.

I wonder how much additional items could be placed in the box if the fresh water tank was filled before the trailer became too tail heavy, resulting in the tail waging the dog effect.

I was wondering if you could get a 24 of Labatt 50 in there if you lay them on there sides. A top secret stash hidden away from the you know who. LOL.

There are some campsites that discourage the use of foreign wood in their camps due to the spread of "invasive species" etc.

Movement of firewood in California and Oregon is highly discouraged..."Burn it where you bought it" is the mantra. Not sure if it's the law yet, but if not it won't be long. After seeing some really decimated areas due to beetle blight, it's totally understandable.

Can you post a photo from the side, to show how it fits under the trailer?

Is it far enough forward that if you tipped the tongue up enough for the bumper to touch down (I know, that's tough with a tandem) the box would not hit ground first? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the details of underfloor component placement on the 19'.

If I were to add sheetmetal to the sides of this, I think I would remove the existing wire to reduce weight.

That is all the photo I have for now.
I just bought the trailer and it is still in Ontario, will take it home to Montreal only when the weather is better for traveling(can wait). For now I am just dreaming of it and how I will used some uf the add on like that carrying box.
Right now I am thinking of closing the box or take it out.
Will have to wait and see. Have to admit that I am worry about the weight of the box and what I will store in it.

My concern is that it reduces your clearance and should you accidentally rub it off on some obstruction, that you could damage the trailer.

It is possible that this particular Escape 19' has the fresh tank under the bed allowing some room for this basket. I can not see how it would work if your fresh water tank was also there.

J Mac and Santacruzer, transporting of wood into public areas is absolutely prohibited in much if not all of the Midwest. All camping wood is to be bought locally and burned locally. Wisconsin has fines up to $1000 and quarantine areas. Michigan confiscates any wood taken across the Mackinac Bridge. The emerald ash borer came from Asia in 2002 first to the Detroit area. Many millions of black ash trees have been lost. Indians depend on them to make certain items. White and green ash are also affected. We have seen signs posted at every campground we have been in all over the Midwest in recent years.
