Question What fridge is this?

From the Escape site, their video of mods shows this gentleman's very nice looking large refrigerator:

Anyone know what model that is? He said it is AC and DC compressor version. Any downside to that kind?

The paddle-latching handles on that particular fridge-freezer setup suggest it may be Indel-Webasto or Vitrifigo brand. There's many brands of all-electric compressor refrigerator / freezers on the market and ETI is now offering at least one as a 'factory option'.

There's lots of threads and posts on this forum about "compressor" refrigeration (DC and AC/DC), search is your friend. No shortage of opinions about pros and cons of making that commitment, they are many and complex personal choices.

IMO the first question one should ask: "Am I comfortable being 100% dependent on ONLY electricity for my camping refrigeration needs?" (YMMV for all sorts of legitimate reasons, IMO)

Hope that helps, Have Fun!

The owner of that fridge (Johnny Hung) is on the Facebook group and stated it was an Isotherm AC/DC Stainless Steel fridge. Don't have a model number, but it looks similar to the Isotherm Cruise model 195 stainless steel.

Thanks!
I'll see what I can find on the pros and cons for the compressor fridge.

We are installing the same refrigerator.

Johnny has done a fine job installing solar on both his trailer and truck so power should not be a problem to run his fridge.

We have 340W solar (ETI-installed 2x170W GoPower panels) and 4 Battleborn GC2 batteries. The Isotherm brochure lists 840W/24 hrs, which amounts to about 2.5 solar charging hours and one battery. We also have 200W portable solar that we attach to our system when needed.

We are confident that we are set up well electrically for the Danfoss/Secop type refrigeration.

Looking forward to learning more.

Excellent…it is fine looking fridge.

I like the compressor style DC units as I have two chest models. You set them at a temperature and that is where it stays.

I would like to hear one in operation at an Escape rally some day.

Every compressor refer I ever owned in an RV would cause a vibration that could be heard at night.......something the absorption units do not.

Installation complete

We finished our installation.

We installed our Cruise 195 INOX flush to the cabinet front. Johnny installed his atop trim pieces that match the cabinet door thickness. Either way, the Cruise 195 INOX looks really nice.

If you decide to do a similar installation, you should expect to customize any installation somewhat because the old Dometic refrigerator opening and cabinet are not straight or square.

Fun project.

I don't know whether the sound is intrusive - and that will be highly dependent on both the appliance and the person - but it is true that compressors inherently vibrate.

I stayed in a hotel room in Europe once which had an electric absorption refrigerator. Given the higher cost and low efficiency, the only reason that I could think of for this unusual choice was the lack of noise, for someone sleeping in the same room as the refrigerator. On the other hand, every studio apartment and student dormitory with a refrigerator has a person sleeping in the same room with a compressor-based refrigerator... and that seems to work.

I now get to sleep with an oxygen concentrator. Sounds a lot like my Honda 1000.
