Campgrounds usually have one antenna (if any) and everybody gets to share that bandwidth - so might be good enough for email, but forget streaming video on Wifi.

We haven't found WiFi in national or provincial park campgrounds, but it's a common amenity in commercially operated campgrounds. We've been in RV parks with multiple WiFi access points (antennas) to provide good coverage to all sites.

It occurred to me that it should be possible to have the Cell Booster on our tow vehicle where we could create a hotspot and then use the WiFi Booster set-up on the trailer to bring the hot-spot into the trailer. It wouldn’t be the most convenient set-up, but it would mean only having to put the Cell Booster on the tow vehicle.

Any thoughts on that set-up? I’ve not seen that suggested anywhere.

I also forgot to ask about power consumption on the Cell Booster. With using the phone as a hotspot, we’d be powering multiple devices which might be too much of a drain on our solar powered batteries? Eg phone, cell booster, wifi booster, ipad or two. Maybe that would be asking too much of our solar capacity?

I have done the opposite, i.e. I have a Verizon Jetpack & Sleek booster in the trailer & an AT&T phone in a Sleek (the Sleek is the older version of the cradle WeBoost) in the tow vehicle. If I can't pick up an AT&T data signal while driving, I switch the phone's WiFi to the Jetpack in the trailer. It provides a weak, but usable signal with the Jetpack in the 21's driver's side dinette upper cabinet. When I had the 17, the Jetpack lived in the front of the trailer & the signal was excellent.

I'd be concerned running the phone & booster in the tow vehicle when parked - The combination of the Jetpack & booster in my trailer draws around 2 amps. Not a problem for the solar fed 6V batteries in the trailer, but I'd be wary of running a long time on the tow vehicle's battery.

Our experience of touring the western US is the same: dumped the external cell phone antenna and booster and used the Verizon hotspot on our phones when their coverage got so much better. There is almost no free Wifi anymore (unless you inside a Starbucks). The private campgrounds have strong signals. Also, do not forget the Tribal Casinos - often great Wifi.
