19 under bed door question

I need to start making a list of things I would like Escape to do...or not do for our 19 build. My under bed storage solution requires that I have 26 1/2 inches to pull it out. I know the hole is 28 inches wide and that the doors do not intrude on the hinge end. However I am worried about how the drivers side door may or may not open all the way and give me the 26 1/2 inches I need. So my questions are : when the doors are open will I be able to get a 26 1/2 inch wide object straight in and out? If not what is holding the driver side door from opening fully? Is it the handles hitting or is it the doors that hit? If that door was install 1/2 to the left would it still cover the hole and then open fully?
I am thinking of asking Escape not to install the doors and handles under the bed so I can install them so that they open fully. I am not concerned that the doors be off a little to the left.
Thanks
Ed

Looks like they are hitting to me. Why not simply remove the factory door handle yourself and replace with a knob that doesn't butt the other door handle?

Yep, but removing the handle and replacing it with a knob means an extra hole in the door. I would either have Escape mount the handle horizontally along the top of the doors, or have them leave the hardware off those doors and you can add suitable knobs yourself.

I think the cupboard door on the right will prevent opening the other any more than it is. Removing a knob might gain 1/16 of an inch.

Ed: I’m not sure if this helps or not since it is a Classic 19 but I installed a 24” wide drawer under the bed that gets quite tight when opened fully. See post below. As you said the drivers side door does not lay open flat. I don’t recall it being the handles but more that the door hits the other door under the fridge. I think the interiors are virtually the same but maybe someone with a new 19 can measure the pinch point for you to be sure. If it is like ours you will likely be very tight with something 26” wide if you can’t go up with it before you hit the pinch point. It should just barely make it though.

Ya I think it is a door on door problem. I will probably just ask for these two doors and handles not to be installed. Worst case I will attach them to the front of the two bins as drawer fronts as someone did here.

Made a less proud new door handle from scrap wood. This worked for me. Door now opens wide enough.

I just took some measurements in our 2G 19. The stock handles do contact between D/S underbed storage and cabinet under fridge, limiting effective underbed width to 26.25”. I removed the handle from the underbed door and remeasured the opening at 27”. Actually, if you have Escape mount the handles low, using the normal bottom mount point as the top mount, the handles clear just fine for full opening.

Wow....great pictures Thank you very much. That is all I need to know and a great suggestion to use the lower hole as the upper handle hole.

Looking at Myron's picture we also have a 2013 19 , no problem with our opening either What if you switched the door under the refrigerator , hinges and handle . Don't know if that would work but I also think the door under your refrigerator is larger . Just a thought . Pat
