2510 fridge problem

It's dark.
Went to my bar fridge for a beer and noticed a puddle on the patio, indicating the bar fridge was defrosting.
The trailer is plugged into the same house outlet so I checked it and there was no power. GFCI was tripped. Checked the breakers in the house. OK.
Trailer fridge is full of food for trip Sunday, so I tried to switch it to propane, which is my problem. I had lit the stove top so I know I have propane, but the indicator light on the fridge ( Dometic 2510 ) is not blinking. I think I heard a pop from outside, indicating that the fridge was attempting to light.

Ran all the food to the fridge and freezer in the house. Reset the GFCI and switched the fridge to electric.

Won't have any power where we are going so I need to get the fridge working on propane. Any suggestions?
It's dark.

Different fridge, but I get a clicking or ticking sound when it attempts to light but doesn't have gas. I also get a whoosh sound when it lights. Don't recall hearing a pop sound. Makes it sound like it was lit but went out, a torch makes a pop when the flame abruptly goes out.

Same sounds when it's light or dark.

Went back out to the trailer and let the stove top burn for considerably longer. Fridge light started blinking and I think it's now lit on propane. Have to check fridge temp later.

But GFCI tripped again. Don't know what that's about. Can't have warm beer in the bar fridge. Better drink it all now.

Reset GFCI and it has not tripped.
Fridge is on propane and fridge has cooled to 44 F so far.
I have no idea what the problem was or why it appears fixed.

Sometimes not knowing the answer is better, as long as the result is the same. Have a good camping trip.

While there can be other reasons, one likely for an older refrigerator is the electric heating element developing a "leak" to ground (the refrigerator stack). If the problem continues, you can replace the heating element.

Well at least you got your priorities right. Always protect the beer.

If your bar fridge has a defroster, they have been known to trip a GFCI.

I have a friend that bought a brand new fridge for his garage and it tripped the GFCI when the defroster kicked in. Contacted the manufacturer and they stated that it was not recommended to power the fridge from a GFCI and should have a dedicated non GFCI outlet to power it.

No help to my friend as garage outlets are required to be GFCI.

Thank you all. This is my prime suspect. Left fridge on propane overnight and it is at 31 F on #5 this morning. GFCI has not tripped.
When I get home from camping, I will put fridge on electric and see if it trips.

Whoosh

Hi Glenn
My daughter and son in Law have a three way fridge in their Boler. Fairly New. We went to light it at Ontario Bolerama and had it set on 5. Each time it tried to light there was an audible poof and ignition fire at the burner but fridge did not light. I turned it down to 1 and tried it and it lit nicely and then held fire as I turned the dial to 5. And it worked that weekend very well. My theory was that a little too much gas was being ignited and it blew itself out when on the higher setting. Just a thought.

I did not think that the temperature setting also controlled the propane volume amount, just the length of time cooling.

Setting

Hi Jim
This is a refrigerator where you hold the button in i and push the igniter so as you attempt to light the pilot, the gas is flowing. Might not make any difference , just relating what I did and that it worked.
Sunny and 84F in Beach North Dakota. Lots of cattle and hay but no beach. On my way to Ekalaka Montana. Ever been there? My grandson has a dinosaur bone that he found on a dig on exhibit at the Carter County Museum there.

Yup. It's running now on #4 and at 34.6 F.

I'd suspect the beer. Buy more of a different brand …. drink both and everything will be rosy.
