5.0TA escape hatch lid replacement woes
Woes, or this could be called “how to determine the correct size.” So when a tree limb falls with a thunderous boom on the lid of your 5.0’s escape hatch cracking/shattering it like an egg, the first thing to do is to thank your lucky stars that the entire tree did not fall on your “baby.” Then, obtain some clear Gorilla tape, the kind that the packaging states can be used for underwater repairs and make a “field” repair so that rain cannot enter through the cracks. Do not use Ductape or gaffer’s tape; it is not waterproof. Once the “temporary” fix is made, you can go about making arrangements to obtain a replacement lid. This is the tricky part. When you measure the lid (mine was @ 15-inches by 22-inches), do not call your favorite RV repair parts outlet and tell them you need a replacement Heng’s 15 X 22 escape hatch lid because they will send you one that is @ 18-inches by 25-inches. The cryptic RV industry apparently cannot do things the simple way and sell replacement lids by their actual size, they sell them based ion the size of the hole that is cut in the trailer to install the entire assembly. Under this system, the lid measuring 15” X 22” fits a 13” X 20 escape hatch. Therefore, be forewarned. Should you need to replace a Heng’s lid that measures 15” X 22”, the correct part number is 90007-C1. Should you mistakenly think that on Heng’s website the part number 90008-C1 for a 15” x 22” is what you need, you would be wrong and rather unhappy when it arrives.
