About To Drill A Hole

I'm at the point in my solar installation where I have to now drill a hole in our 19 for the panel receptacle. I have a hole saw of the proper diameter. Since I've never drilled into fiberglass before, are there things I should do or watch out for like putting duct tape over the hole prior to drilling to prevent chipping? Any tips or suggestions are most welcome.

No worries if you are using a sharp hole saw, Doug. Just start the pilot bit in at a moderate speed until it goes through, and follow through with the hole saw. It drills quite easily. If you go easy there will be minimal chipping with a sharp saw. Duct tape would be a bad idea I think, because of the stickiness of it, as it would gum up the teeth.

With the first couple revolutions of the hole saw when it starts cutting, it will grab a bit, but fiberglass is fairly hard, so it won't be too bad. The pilot bit will hold it from wandering.

Hi Doug

Drill it from the outside in and just put a piece of masking tape over the area and go slow with little pressure.
