All roof sealant bad 2014 19

Is it normal for all roof sealant on every vent to leak within 8 years? Seems to me 20 especially for one kept most of its life in Vancouver.

I haven't had any issues, but I did ask ETI to check everything a few years ago. Part of regular maintenance.

I check our 2013 every spring. Had two or three inch long separations since 2017 on the front edge of the AC and caulked them up with Proflex. Maxfan, bathroom fan, refrigerator and solar panel standoffs have been perfect. I go over while trailer every spring too.

Maybe a newly hired employee was the one who caulked yours at the factory. Luck (bad luck) of the draw, maybe.

Considering the date of your post, I'm inclined to guess you're not Irish (you know the saying, "luck of the Irish").

If it is all original sealant I'd be surprised if after 8 years it hasn't leaked.

The only roof leak I've had with three RVs over 15 years of ownership, with the RVs being up to 40 years old, is one part of the flange around one skylight in one trailer... which I fixed by replacing the original sealant with Eternabond tape. I did replace a plumbing vent on my Boler, because the pile of goop around it was obviously cracked, but it didn't appear to have leaked.

I think this varies by location - exposure in a very hot and sunny environment would be hard on sealants.

Eternabond is good stuff. Does anyone use it around roof vents on Escapes?

i used it on that trailer because the skylight had a thin mounting flange that wasn't really for use on an RV, and it was already installed so even if it had a suitable flange there wasn't an opportunity to just use a suitable sealant under it. I'm glad I used it in that situation, but I wouldn't in most cases. For a Maxxfan and that vent in the other trailer's roof, I just used sealant under the flange - no external goop or tape.
