Anderson Hitch Camper Leveler

Here are some pictures of the Anderson Hitch Camper Leveler Model 3604. The leveler is just a bit too long to fit between the wheels on the Escape 19 footer. As the photos show, I just trimmed one inch from the end of the leveler. This increased the initial lift 3/16 inch from ½ inch to 11/16 inch, which is negligible.

Backing the trailer up onto the leveler was a cinch, making leveling a breeze.

This looks great. But, is the wedge easy to pull out? I wonder how easy it would be to pull out on gravel or uneven ground? Hummmm.

Back up a bit & pull the wedge, then forward off the cam.

Also, the pictures show the levelers installed in the front of each tire, so the trailer was pulled up on the leveler vs backing up?

I think I'm going to try and make something like that from glued up wood.

That'll probably be lighter Myron- I was surprise how heavy the Andersons are.

What type of saw did you use to cut the leveler? We've got a set and I haven't cut them down yet. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I have been agonizing on how I was going to make an angular cut safely with just hand tools. This is so much easier!

I used a hand jig saw and then evened things out with a hand plane. It cut like butter at a medium rpm.

I cut mine with a mitre saw and then sanded them.

Getting them in would really be the only issue. We camp on grassy a area mostly, and when soft and wet, it bulges up a bit between the tires. Getting them out would be real easy, just pull forward 4'.

Anyone in the San Luis Obispo area with a recommended saw they'd like to try on one? ;-). I have a hand held miter saw, a tile saw, and a small table saw - none of which are appropriate for the job.

I don't see why you couldn't use the table saw, do you have a miter gauge and a clamp?

Thanks Dave. Just made a cardboard template from the tire. Say, you don't happen to have a band saw, do you?

Hi Jim,
I put the levelers at the back of the wheel and then backed up. But you could easily reverse the operation.

Jane,
I used my compound miter chop saw. But any saw will work just fine. The levelers are molded plastic.

I was just a little nervous about that, but yes, I have a clamp and could rig something to miter it. Not sure my table saw is up for the job - it's a mini with a 4" blade, but I'll give it a shot.

anderson leveler

I believe I just grabbed my hand held hack saw and cut the end then held it up to a sander to round out the tip. Today I actually used them, although they were overkill for the job. I could have made the one another 1/2 inch shorter.

Sure, a set could be built up of plywood, laminating 8 or more layers of 3/4" ply to get the required width... but I wouldn't take that job on (especially for tandem axles) unless I had a bandsaw and wanted an excuse to use it. Some sort of finish would be needed, too.

A set of two would take most of a 4'x4' (half) sheet of plywood... is a set of two of the Andersens that heavy (20 pounds or so)? They could be... it's a lot of solid plastic.
