Anderson leveler cutdown

Had a PM from an Escape owner to be regarding cutting down the Anderson leveler so that it would fit between the tires on a 21. Went down and measured and took a couple photos of our Escape.
Here are the caveats. 2013 Escape 21, early first generation. Brand new Endurance tires inflated to 50 lbs. Trailer is parked on dead flat concrete floor and is level. Anderson ramp piece has been trimmed to 13 1/4 inches and just fits between the tires. Angle on the trim is about 55 or 60 degrees. Both are trimmed. That way either one I grab for side to side leveling will work. I don’t know what the original owner used to trim the first one but when I got the trailer home I had a fellow with access to a band saw with the blade running in oil, trim the one that was not trimmed.
YMMV but this has worked for us since 2017

Would this be different on a 19?

I do not know. We had a 19 but it was a 2010 and did not use Andersons on it. Also it came with 14 inch wheels not 15s. So you’d have to check with someone with a current production model as I believe they went to 15 inch wheels and not sure about axle spacing on the bigger dimension frame that came later etc.

For our 2020 19' we did have to trim the Anderson levelers so they would not get stuck between the wheels.

Thanks for your clarification, Curtis. I’m sure those with newer units appreciate the information.

I use these. No trimming required. Light weight. $28. Each. $56 for twin axels.

First on our 21C, now on our BF.

They get the done. I put a scrap of indoor/outdoor carpet under them to keep them from sliding if I’m on a very slick surface like new asphalt.

They are plastic. Easily cut with a hand held circular saw. Thats what a friend of mine did.

That reminds me I need to get a pair and ditch some of the wood blocks I carry.

Not sure how this happened but one Andersen leveler snapped when leveling on a trip this summer. This was on a sandy surface but maybe there was a rock or root underneath I didn't see that caused a point load. It broke between the 3rd and 4th hole. I still like them and bought another one to replace - I just wouldn't trust the advertised 30,000# load capacity.

Also just an FYI the original ones were completely smooth and would sometimes slip depending on the surface. Some owners cut grooves into the bottom to help with traction. The new one I just received has been improved with grooves molded into the leveler.

We use one Andersen leveler and one Andersen Rapid Jack when leveling our camper. Works great for the past four years and 500 nights camping and don't need to carry a separate bottle jack in case we get a flat. We've yet to have a flat though.

Since the Andersen Leveler has been shortened to fit between the tires there is really no difference in the final height of either tire when combined with the Rapid Jack.

Enjoy,

Perry

Ours are homemade out of wood. Traced the pattern from our Andersen one but to a shorter arc length. They have a good strength to weight ratio.
