Glen most refer when speaking of plastic as something that is hard . Vinyl is a softer material . If you were to order a new belly band , I would ask for vinyl , not plastic. Maybe I'm wrong , not checked . Our vinyl insert doesn't need changing and is fine . Pat

It still has a little bit of a tilt to the front, but that's okay as that's where the excess water will come down. He said one end needs to be lower than the other anyway.
He said that I need to be careful when I retract the awning. He suggested that I stop it just before it hits the metal lip that extends out to make sure it doesn't get caught underneath. That happened to someone and it really mucked things up. Mine was getting close to getting caught on the lip, so I'm really glad he adjusted it for me.
There's also some screws on top of this box-like mechanism that can stick out and tear the awning. Again, that happened to someone and ripped the awning. So, one more thing to add to the "things to check periodically" list.

Thanks for this description of possible awning issues. Unfortunately I'm having difficulty following what screws should be periodically checked and how the awning can hit the metal lip.
Could you post some pictures? Thanks.

A question, the 2 right side corners where the metal wraps around the corner curves have the band flush against the body at the bottom. The left 2 do not, the front one one stands off about 1/2 inch at the widest and has holes in it where I assume rivets were to be installed. The back one is also off the body about the same amount and has a rivet floating in air.
|
Using the forum search showed nothing about this so I used google. And it looks like this is normal. The rivet installed into air, that is different. It does not move so I'll leave it.

I was too and had to go play with the awning today to figure it out. The awning lead rail ends contact to ramp piece on the casing to guide it into the casing. The piece on the rail could possibly hook under the ramp if the awning was adjusted to low.

I wonder if adding additional bend into the two guide rails so the awning would not catch on them would be a possible solution. I will now be watching when we retract it. But I'd hate for the awning to go into auto retract and destroy itself.

So long as to outter rail is not hanging too low for some reason I don't think it would catch.

True but I had looked ours over and can't figure where this adjustment to prevent it from hanging low is. In case I needed to ever adjust it. I can see the ones used if it does not retract fully. Ours does so that is fine. I opened and closed ours and noticed it catches towards the front part of the guide With wear is this going to be something we need to look at?

I hope every person picking up is being shown how this problem can occur. Maybe some photos and explanation here would help.

Are you talking about the adjustment to vary the slope from 5 to 15 degrees?

Yes that's it. I would bet Dometic will come out with a different end cap for the rail with a more round part instead of a hook going up another hook shape ramp after they replace a few awnings. If it is adjusted up (5 degrees) it does not seem like it would be a problem if it auto retracted. Just something I need to get use to watching for now.
Can someone please rotate my picture in post 31.
