Awning Woes

Not sure what caused this (pic) but I discovered when I got home today. All switches were OFF. After I parked trailer, I extended it a few feet to see if it would go back in but noticed the fabic is twisted (pic). Used awning yesterday, no issues and closed and locked as expected. Sent Dave @ Escape an email to see what to do next.

That's not good. It seems it closed with the fabric folded? Is the front rail now bent, or is that the camera lens?

I am interested to hear Escape's take on it. How old is your trailer? It is not in your user info.

That does not look good, same as what is on mine. I went with the power awning as the manual one unfurled. Now this? May have to look into securing the with a strap? You awning looks bent?

Yes it's bowed. Used it for the 3rd time this weekend. Trailer still under warranty.

Did you clean the armadillos off before you closed it?

LHC sells a heavy nylon strap with an adjustable , locking plastic buckle for keeping the awning from opening during travel . I had a set for our Casita and plan on ordering a set for our Escape
Far less expensive than repairing / replacing the awning

I think that the fabric was folded somehow when it was retracted and is now bound up with the motor and springs. You say it retracted fully when last used but the 1st picture is part way out. Worrisome, I will have to keep an eye on it more when retracting mine. Hopefully Dometic will cover this under warranty, let us know what Escape says and how this gets handled.

Edit: I see now that the 1st picture is for reference, without the problem. Was it on the same trip? is the awning on the way out in?

My theory. Awning tried to extend while driving (switch OFF) and wind sensor retracted it and the fabric got twisted. I haven't messed with it after noticing this upon arrival. I did extend it a few feet in storage and left it there till I got guidance from Escape. Update: Escape says try to extend and retract and call Dometic (not looking forward to this). Will get the nylon strap to hold it in place when this gets repaired or replaced.

Seems highly unlikely with no power. Assuming the power switch is wired and working properly.

The Fix. Opened awning, let it sit out all day in sun to warm up fabric, tracks, open and closes as normal. Did make a few straps for travel so I don't have to deal with this again. cheers

Wow, fixed itself. So the fabric and motor torque was bowing the awning? Please share your strap ideas for others, thanks.

Yes, please post pictures of your straps and relevant details. Didn't realize straps were needed or recommended for the electric awning. Other than rolling up random leaves and twigs in ours we've had no problems and I would really prefer to avoid this issue if I can. Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

I wonder if those child proof locks used on the refer inside would work, you would need one at each end, PITA but secure...https://www.amazon.com/Fridge-Refrig...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Just got 2 straps (link below), cut off excess after I ran behind case and under guide that ETI installs. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-1-...0911/206802158

That will work, I'll look for some white ones and post. I forget if there was space at each end available....it has been 5 months since the awning was last used.

Could you post a picture? You say you are using the metal guide? That is just glued on. Is there space to just secure the rail to the case?
